Being a teacher is not easy, juggling with the workload and challenges faced in school. Passion is rather important for a teacher as many felt not justifiable for their income and workload and in the end teachers who are not motivated , leads to poor performance that does not meet up to the parent expectations.

I do think the good teachers should be appreciated.

Good teachers…as in committed and dedicated ones should be given due recognition. Parents can do so by informing the principals of their children’s schools. Such recognition will give teachers encouragement and motivation to continue their passion.

Yes, I have the same feeling with you. If you meet the irresponsible teacher unfortunately, you can change a teacher or a school for your kids.

I worry about the teachers my kids get every year.

Fortunately, my daughter’s FT taught her very well for 2 years.
For those who look down on their students bcos they are not in top or mid range classes, I really wish we parents can do something.

How can a teacher look down on weaker students? They are the ones that need the most help, support and encouragement!

You should complain to MOE. I have P6 students telling me that they know that their teachers cannot solve the questions without referring to the answer keys. Sometimes explain half way then they are stuck. Have to consult other teachers.

I think these are two different matters. And the party to complain is not MOE but the Principal (because the MOE will simply redirect to the Principal anyway).

For the first one, it is clearly the teacher at fault - marking and going through the answers should be the very basis of our profession.

For the second one, I am afraid I shall have to mention that all teachers, like any one of us, have weak subjects. Due to \"exigencies of service\" (yadda, yadda), some of these teachers end up having to teach their weak subjects. I remember my teaching Mathematics (no problem, given my engineering background) and Science (Biology, argh...) when I first entered the teaching service, even though I am trained in English and PE.

I remember taking time to discuss with teachers who brought up some difficult Math questions and who had difficulty presenting them to the students. I remember arguing over some aspects of Electricity (I obviously won the argument, cause electronics was my rice-bowl before I joined the teaching service).

I would like to think that the teacher who made the effort to check out with her colleagues is a much better teacher than one who evade the answers.

                        Hi,

                        Need some advise here.
My dd brought back a piece of composition which I encouraged her to apply what she has learned from her creative writing class. Her form teacher stuck off 2 paragraph and wrote the sentences she wanted. Though my English not very good, but I felt the story flow quite smooth and she used good phrases. I feel what the teacher did is very discouraging and student will not able to think out of box.

My dd mentioned to me once her form teacher scold her stupid because she didn’t know how to start the projector in class. She was ICT monitor that time and first time in charge of starting the projector before class start.

My dd is very afraid of her and she keep telling me how she wish she could go back to P1 or P2 class. She’s now P3. Can anyone advise me whether I should talk to her teacher. I worry that the teacher will blacklist my dd and treat her even worst.
