My DS can’t adapt well to p5 life. He felt stressed with the homework load, now after the ca1 exam, he became demoralized.

I did look at the whole cohort but definite my DS dive deeper than the rest.

        Newuser,

Your kids cohort results so fast out?
My boy math dived. Am sure dived deeper than rest as he said mostly careless mistakes and he was quite upset that he doesn’t want to talk about it. He doesn’t want me to sign him up for tuition too and beforehand, claimed that the paper was not difficult. Pride before a fall, maybe? Had told him that if he got informed to attend supplementary class next term, just take it as free tuition.

Overall DD did ok. As per expectation, results dipped. However the teacher taught the kids to look beyond raw scores. Most students didn’t do as well as previous exams but there was a handful that still managed to score full or close to full marks.

What was different from previous exams? The length of the paper, format and time management. The P5s need to finetune their exam skills.

Let out kids recharge. More to come … very soon.

My son told the maths paper easy, number of qns reduced than the standard paper.30 mins for paper1. I don't understand some teachers set the paper harder while others set easy in the same school.Haven't see the papers, so cannot tell, english is harder or not.But teachers prepared the kids for facing a drop.My son is ok if he get a pass.

For Maths papers, it may be because the kids are unable to detect the correct heuristics methods to use. I would like to recommend the book challenging methods made easy. I used it for many of my students. Works wonders. Do try to find it in popular.

                    TheAnswer,

Agree that my boy is weak to identify which heuristic to use. My husband said only practice can make perfect this skill. The thing now we lack is time for practice.

                    Motherhen,
My boy did better than our expectation for hcl. We only expect a pass but this potato boy came out highest for that paper. Why like that? We admit to spending a disproportion time on chinese at the expense of other subjects, thinking that his stronger ones can hold a bit while we focus on the weak ones. Turns out the strong one can’t hold if we neglect it. His time already maxed out. Unless he speeds up his work process and practice better time management skills, he won’t be able to squeeze in more practice for other subjects.

                      Jedamum,

Yes, lack of time is always an issue. But looking at dd’s CL results, we’ll definitely have to devote more time to the subject. I’m getting stressed, it’s a short time away to SA1 and there’s even compo and oral to cover. These are gg to be Herculean tasks, as dd doesn’t seem to process in Chinese at all…

:? What do you mean by number of questions reduced?
Is your DS CA1 Maths paper structure something like this -
                        MCQ 10 questions
                        Short answer questions 5 questions
                        Long Answer questions 7 questions
                        Total 22 questions = 50 marks

:? Also what do you mean by some teachers set the paper harder while others set easy in the same school? Aren't all the students having the same exam? Or are you saying the difference between P5 Standard Maths and P5 Foundation Maths?
