If it's a full service flight, they have video games and cartoons on board too. My boy had a great time.
My boy that time dun like the headset. Will try again this time. Hope they will watch cartoon. So I can have some peace. I never watch any movies on flight a long time since I started flying them.nugget:
My daughter always had problems sleeping unless in total quiet and darkness. We had problems in early years until she was old enough to accept using eye shades to sleep. Now she travels better. For small kids, whether ASD or NT, make sure you have lots of snacks, toys and books, and let them eat or drink during take-off or landing to avoid ear problems.
Yes, I am loading myself with sweets, snacks, lollipops (for taking off and landing), ipads, ipod touch.
Hope they will be good. -

You may want to limit the sweets and lollipops - too much sugar? You don't want them on a sugar high. I prefer to give wholegrain crackers and raisins as at least those have a little more nutritional value and can make up for some of the not-so-good meals when travelling.slmkhoo:

Hahaha. Found out when I was eating raisins like crazy during my preg and gained a few kgs from it.nugget:

Yes, I know. I usually wouldn't hand out more than 5 at a time, but at least it has a few vitamins and some fibre!slmkhoo:

Ya, the lollipops are for sucking during take off and landing.
The candies are the vit C soft chewies - ribena or scott brand. They dun really like whole grains leh. Last time I used to give bread. So they can chew and swallow during take off. The baby will just suck pacifier or eat baby biscuits.
Cannot give mine raisins cos they eat super fast lol… -
Hi
Can I ask if any parents here joined any support group for autism or special needs? Please share your experience if so.
I’m thinking of joining one -
Hi Junemom
Every special needs child is different and rather than looking at HFA, it would be good if you go deeper and understand where your child is good at and need more help on.
My son is considered High Functioning Autism as he is verbal and is able to cope with daily live relatively well. However, we still have to work on his rigidity and his sensory issues. He is doing home based ABA and has privvate OT and ST in addition to EIPIC
Maybe you can share your child’s situation. -

I considered this thread and all mummies here are my support group. We will help and support each other, share info, answer questions and a few of our kids are of the same age.Hi

I'm thinking of joining one
But I think mostly the mummies here are all HF ASD.
What kind of support group are you looking for? Face to face type? -
There is a discussion on-going on this site under Health-Special Needs on autism. You should post there.

I think online forum such as this is great when I can learn and share from other parents’ experiences and knowledge. Though I have come to accept his condition, I do have a lot of questions of understanding his condition and I felt that I want to learn all the aspects of tackling and coping with my son. I feel that I am walking around blind-folded and learning through touching and falling (ouch!). The additional areas I am looking at:
1) Hear from professionals like Speech and Occupational Therapist on the cause of certain behaviours or speech issues and learn a few techniques of overcoming
2) How each type of intervention can help, such as ABA, TEACCH or even nutrition can make my son feel better
3) The process of applying for the different types of government-run/subsidised centres and the feedback on these centres - I think very often one parent will come online and ask about how to apply and which centre is good type of questions. If there is a central place to get updated information, it would be good. Though CEL website provides the key data, it does not provide info on teaching methods and what type of kids are suitable
4) Parents’ success stories of bringing HF kids through mainstream preschool and to primary schools
And also to feedback to government on the different needs that is required for these special children
My son is 3 going on 4 and I find information very lacking in this area.
Not sure if ARC or AAS has any type of parents’ support group. If anyone has come across, please suggest.
