I don’t mind attending PTMs if parents are considerate.

Keep conversation to 10 min for each child…teachers have to talk to 40 sets of parents. Anything else, email the teacher. All these years, I only ask kids’ teachers what I do not see at home…ie their behavior.

Like what buds mentioned, communication is 2 way. Tone of teacher is important…if he/she tells parents or discusses how both sides can help the child, which would one prefer?

        buds:
        We love PTCs. :rubhands:

Hubs says it's time he can tell the teachers about our DDs \"true\" character. :rotflmao: They are angels in school. :imanangel:

As PTCs/PTMs are generally only allotted 10-15min per student, good to run through the zest of...

        > what we want to share with teacher about our child at home that she doesn't already know.

        > what the school's / teacher's plans are moving forward

        > how the teacher will or can work on the targeted areas of strengths (to motivate them further or push them harder) ; tips/ strategies (if any)

        > how the teacher can or will work on the weaknesses given the group size of his or her class

        > what can we do as parents to complement the school's plans/initiatives

        > how the teacher assesses our children true potentials (if not met)

        > conduct in school/class... cooperativeness... any issues with friends... attention span.... etc

        > misc

But we never leave or end our PTCs before thanking our DDs teachers for a good start of the year and remind them we are only a phonecall away should they need to reach us about anything at all, be they good things or not so good ones.

In short, we keep our relationship cordial and very open.

Communication is only ideal when it is a 2-way traffic.

PS. We have the teacher's desk numbers and personal numbers. 😉
Same as buds I LOVE PTM!!! lol normally i will get the last slot as i am on very good talking terms with my ds teacher we are more like friends, so normally wad happen will be we will talk the night before about what we both have issues on then on ptm itself we will engaged my ds into the conversation and tell him what we both think and see in him we enforce good work conduct we will tell praised him and tell him how good he is when he improves and we will definitely lecture him together when we see him slipping.

i have the teachers personal numbers as well like they have mine so i am always around for them no matter what time isit and is 2 ways, the teacher might call me at 8pm to remind me of something i may call the teacher at 9pm to ask something.

Like today i went to school for dd event right away i got 2 teacher stopping me telling me my ds was running across the carpark like no business and ask me to talk to him, the dean told me he was about to call me too.

My ds cannot misbehave in school as everyone literately everyone KNOWS i am the tigress mummy from the security uncle to the principle so from the time i step into the school i have 5 ppl already telling me he ran in the car park even before the teacher got to me.

So now instead of PTM we are having a 4 ppl meeting including my boy to discuss how and what we plan to do for him before PSLE as we all know he can do well we do not want him slipping away into the dark hole.

According to the teachers they love parents like me who are very hands on into their kids life but to DS i am his worst nightmare. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

          ngl2010:
We appreciate PTMs. Usually, we only communicate to teachers using email. During PTM, we can learn more about our child's conduct in school, his strengths and weaknesses. We learn more about our son's behaviour in social/school settings, which definitely we won't be able to see when he is at home.

In our son's school, it is not compulsory to attend PTM. You can inform the teacher if you don't want to come for PTM because you don't see the need to attend PTM or if you don't want to wait or whatever reason you have. Nobody is forcing you to attend PTM.

Please don't attack school each time you see an opportunity to attack. If you don't like the school, you can move him/her to another school or home school him/her yourself.

Emmm...don't really understand why you suggest the above, who mention anything about attacking school? :scratchhead:
The question was asked due to curiousity as to what else parent can ask during PTC if one already has regular update on the phone with the teachers. During phone conversation, teachers are usually accommodating and will answer all queries, academic & social behaviour inclusive. Although parents are informed that each PTC session is for 10-15 mins, but some parents do take up more than that and some teachers do not/ darenot/ shy to stop the parent from talking. unfortunately if you meet inconsiderate parents, the waiting time becomes unbearable. Of course it is not mandatory, but certainly there is no need to waste time just waiting in this case.

Thanks Bud, for the constructive feedback. There are indeed other questions that I can follow up during a PTC.

sometimes its not PARENTS is teachers who take a bit longer if they have more things to inform the parents, thus normaally what ds school teachers will do is put this few they feel they have more things to discuss with parents right at the back and this parents will be informed before hand.

I will make it a point to attend ptm if the teacher is new.

Not necessarily new to the school but new to me ,
in the sense that my kids have not been taught by him/her bfore.

I go to such meetings to size the teacher up
in a positive way of course 😄

doing so enables me to form a mental image of the teacher when my kids mention him/her in our conversations.

I feel I can engage better this way.
