          The answer is 6004. I dont know is it right?

          6004 is correct...

          rounding to nearest 10
          largest possible --> 6000 + 10/2 -1 =6004
          smallest possible --> 6000 - 10/2 = 5995

          cheers.

                between 1/2 and 5/6

                answer 2/5 wrong

                Thanks, PapayaDad.

                So we can pick any 2 fractions?
                What if the fractions must be x/y and (x+2)/(y+2) like in the question?
                Then is it always true that x/y < (x+1)/(y+1) < (x+2)/(y+2) :?

                Not true also. Try x = 3 and y = 2 ; then

                3/2 < 4/3 wrong

                  Hi,

                  Pls help me to solve the problem.
                  Thanks in advance.

                  1)Sammy has 7/11 as much money as Jeremy. If they have a total of $198, how much money must Jeremy give Sammy so that they will have the same amount of money?

                  2) Randy and Kelly have the same number of books at first. After Randy gave away 25 books to Kelly, Randy has 3/8 as many books as Kelly. How many books id each of them have at first?

                    Hi

                    A MD may not be necessary for this question.I have intentionally drawn the MD so that kids can see the sequence of events and understand the concept better.

                    Sammy and Jeremy shared 18 units altogether. For them to get equal amount of money, each must receive 9 units (18/2), hence Jeremy must give 2 units to Sammy (11-9).

                    Another way to look at this question, they have a total amount of 198. For them to have an equal amount of money, each must receive 99.Therfore the amount of money to be transferred is 22 (99-77 or 121-99)

                    Hope this helps.

                    Best wishes

                      Hi

                      Randy gave away the books to Kelly, so the number of books shared by them remained the same before and after.

                      I've drawn more MD than necessary to show the flow of events.Once students get more familiar, they may consolidate the steps.

                      Hope this helps.

                        Thanks, TianZhu.

                        It's so clear with the picture. You are such a wonderful person who really help all the mothers to gear up Primary Maths and teach our children.
