Hi Parents with child in PHPPS,

I am thinking of enrolling my #1 to PHPPS next year and i am curious about stress level of children in the school. To me, it seems quite stressful for the child to be ranked and band in classes every year. To a parent, this may be a potential stress to me if my child is not in the good classes.

i assume every student knows roughly their own academic standing based on their class allocation. Does this affect their motivation to study; in the sense that students in the first few classes would be more motivated to study harder cos they know they need good results to maintain their \"standing\" and be allocated to classes same as their friends.... and the lower ranked class children might tend to have less motivation to study cos they might think the kids in ither classes are smarter and they also do not need to study harder.

On the other hand, ranking may not be a bad idea if teacher and parents are understanding towards children and do not stress the children over it.

Can anyone share whether it is stressful for your child to go thru this ranking system every year? How does the school manage the motivation of children in the lower \"ranked\" classes, esp the P6 classes?

      Thank you.

i always tell my son to just try his best and let the results take care of themselves.

Hi all, my dd is starting P2 next year. What should we pack for her bag? So far, I packed Maths and Chinese, a few exercise books and files. I also packed the Stellar Handwriting book and MPAH math 2A. Her bag is so heavy now. All above excluding water bottle, lunch box etc. Did I pack too much?

Anyone need brown shorts size 22? If I measure from waist to the bottom, is 28 cm. Have 3 preloved ones, giving away free. Self collect from my place.

Please PM me if you want.

We packed only the core subjects (EL, CL and MA) 1st semester textbooks and workbooks on first day. The FT will tell the pupils what else to submit on 2nd day.

Or you can put these in a small carrier?

As for exercise books, the younger boy uses:
                1. Mental sums (medium square)
                2. Spelling
                3. Spelling writing book (4 books, think depends on EL teacher)
                4. Creative phrases (only 1-2 pages used, a waste)
                5. Journal
                6. Tingxie (medium square)

Again, no need to submit all together on first day.
