horrible A level results
I didn't say go to work straightaway. I said go to Poly. There are a few Poly courses that are \"3+1\" yr degree courses too. So if those interest the child, it would be useful, and the child would not lose too many years going this route. Just 1 year more than those doing the 3yr university course.
But the \"3+1\" yr degree courses seem to cater mainly for the allied health industries such as physiotherapists, radiographers, etc. And not everyone may be keen to be in this field.
Any alternatives?
Then do a course you prefer, and then work and save money
and look for a 1 or 2 yr course in UK or Australia to do to complete it to a degree. -

Why would anyone want to redo their A-levels? My girl was throwing away all her A-level stuff last month and when I mentioned it, I already knew what answer she would give. SHe said A-levels (2 yrs in JC) was such a horrible experience academically. No way she'd want to go thru the stress of doing A-levels ever ever again! She'd rather go to Poly and work from there. You know how the JCs overtest the students so that the students usually fail most of their core subjects, hoping they would do extremely well at the actual A-levels? That's the problem with our system. *sigh*. It's too discouraging for most students. The A-level Prelim results statement can throw away.
One of my best friends' daughter, someone who isn't very interested to study and had a prelim score of about 30 for L1R5, managed a L1R5 of 7 points for her final O levels exams.
She chose to go poly despite my friend's initial objection of 'wasted'.
She simply replied her mum something like, \"Mum, I am not going to put myself into another 2 years of crazy academic drillings. These O and A levels routes are sick and I think I will be more sane and more balanced to go to the poly. I want a life. If you wanna me to enter college, I am not sure I can still perform another round of magic or not.\"
My friend relented and let her decide on own coz originally she had more or less 'written off' her daughter in terms of academics... -

I'd wanted my daughter to go poly but she couldn't decide then what she wanted to do. So it was her decision to go to JC to bide time. She did well except for one subject in the end . . Really not sure if can be offered place in uni or not, so she also applied poly... Yes allied health course.
