          i have also just started using the A-star series of CDs VCDs to help my dd learn chinese as her third language...

          i bought it a few years back, gathered dust in the drawer, and the Han Yu Pin Yin CD which is part of the series does not work anymore.. but the others are still good as new... we learned colors in hanyu pinyin using the series.. ive posted a video clip of the A-star color tutorial in our youtube channel..

              I bought them through my child's school. I remembered it was sold at a discount from usual selling price outside.

              Perhaps you can enquire through your child's school and see if the principal/teachers willing to negotiate with the supplier for a good discount if bought in bulk through school orders.

                This is annoying. The Berries teacher commented my DS's hypy still need to 加强. Seriously I am reluctant to spend more time on this area because he is doing the P1/P2 assessment books fine and I do not see a need to reinforce. So is either Berries standard is higher or the assessment books my DS does is simple? :?

                Nevertheless, I will talk to his teacher and find out how can I help him. At the same time, I will include daily 5-10 mins revision through ipad app. :roll:

                    前鼻音 (qian bi yin) - refers to 'n' sound at the end of a syllable (front nasal)
                    后鼻音 (hou bi yin) - refers to 'ng' sound at the end of a syllable (back nasal)
                    You can feel the difference in tongue placement when you say the sounds:
                    for the 'n' sound, tongue tip is pressed on palate behind upper front teeth;
                    for the 'ng' sound, tongue root is pressed on back of throat.

                    Quite a no. of people don't distinguish between these 2 sounds, and they tend to use the 'ng' sound more.
                    eg. 因为 is yinwei, not yingwei.
                    进步 is jinbu, not jingbu.

It's easy to mix them up as so many people get them wrong.
