Nail Biting Bad Habit
-
Tell them that the nails are another form of hair. If they bite and chew or even, eat them up, they are liken to chewing and eating their own hair. My son had this bad habit until his science teacher enlightened him. He has been conscious since and stops himself before he does anything silly. LOL!

Now that's cunning
But how about this thing about \"Eating boogers is good for your health\"? :yikes: :siao: :faint:
\"A doctor in Australia has come up with sufficient research that states that what we don't know is that after we eat it, the boogers actually acts like a low grade flu shot. We eat the bacteria, the immune system fights off the bacteria, causing our immune system to strengthen. It acts just like a medicine would.\"

Back to the nail biting & peeling, anyone tried home manicure? Apply a few coats of transparent nail polish? Do it during the weekends for little Boys & Girls. If you apply other stuff, they may rub their eyes. -
My son has been peeling his nails for a few years. Usually I scold him but secretly I am glad because I don't have to cut his finger nails
So if there is no bad effect on health as proven by Chief, it is alright to just let my son keep peeling his nails, right? I have never seen any bleeding. -
my hubby keep tearing his nails from young and his nail till now are super soft. is that consider a bad side effect?

Previously my doter used to bite her nail often. No amount of explaining, nagging or scolding could get her to stop the bad habit.
One day DH saw her biting her nail again while playing with her cousins. Instead of scolding or nagging he decided that she should wear gloves (the thick winter type) there and then. Of course my doter was upset and naturally hid her hands behind her and away from her cousins.
After that … voila … she stopped the habit magically. -
DD inherited this bad habit… I tried all sorts of methods, from soft to hard (Caning)… It dun work at all! Till I got fed up and told her, if i discovered that she bit her nails and there’s none for me to trim for her, i will shave her botak.
Initially, she restrained herself and after that she totally forgotten about it. So i told her that i will bring her to the barber after her school. I brought her to the barber and told the barber to trim it real short (boy cut). I told DD that my sis pleaded with me not to shave her botak but just give her a real short hair cut.
DD almost broke out in tears when the barber cut her hair. After that, her nail biting habit stopped. Sometimes, we have no choice but to take such extreme measures. -
My girl has this bad habit too, not biting her nails, but peeling her nails. I really don’t know what to do with her. She says she does it because she feels stressed, and I noticed that it’s always worse whenever it’s the exam period. Recently, I noticed that she does it unknowingly too, like when she’s watching the TV, reading the newspapers, etc. There’s no stress involved in these activities! I think she’s become too used to peeling her nails (no matter when she’s stressed or not stressed), that she can’t kick the habit.
What should I do? Omg! -

How about offer her alternative activities to destress. Although ice cream and tidbits are not very healthy but it helps to destress. She really hates exercising, any attempts to make her exercise with me always fail. Food didn't seem to work in her case too. I've also tried hitting her hands every time I notice her peeling her nails. Oh, and she peels the skin around her nails too. Her fingers look really ugly now, and I keep telling her that when she grow up, people will feel disgusted looking at her fingers because other girl friends would all have nice and long and pretty manicured fingers except her. It doesn't seem to bother her at all.
