Ha..ha.. Time has change. I though girls suppose to be more obedient & easier to manage but our girls prove us wrong.mummy so kiasu:
My P2 girl is even worst, she got band 2 for Chinese. I have to give her more time. She is more playful than her elder brother. Don't judge your kids so early. Some of them are late bloomer. Just make sure their foundation are good.
i agree with you totally...foundation must be strong...it's pointless reaching the top without a strong base.
son is picking up slowly at sec 1 this year...before that, it has been an uphill struggle. daughter at p3 is worst...playful, rebellious and totally different from brother...i can get son to do his work, at most he will complain but will still do it...with daughter, i have to be very firm and most of the time raise my voice...even chinese tutor tells me the same thing. -

I think the 2 brothers were canned too. It is the parents' method
It's very pitiful to hear that.ngl2010:
Some parents are really too much :siao: although that particular student has 2 brothers managed to get into RI. It is enviable but I myself won't like to be canned so why should I cane my son? :siao:
Just bcos 2 brothers are in RI, doesn't mean youngest one must go there too.
99.5 is so so so good...what's the prob with the parents?
It is so sad...

A few years back, I had a P5 student. After one of his exams, i noticed that there were belt marks on his legs. Turned out that his dad actually whipped him with his belt when he didn’t achieve A grade for all his subjects. I was very sad because in this age, there are still parents whipping their kids. The teacher in school found out and investigated because they thought it was child abuse. The dad really caused so much fear in the student.

The pressure to excel is so intense. It’s really pitiful for kids…and heartbreaking to have to push them. But as parents, we have to know how/when to let go when we know kids have reached their peak. I always remind myself this, ‘stretch a rubber band beyond and it will snap’.

Girls today are a handful. My son is definitely easier to handle than younger daughter, even now…daughter can argue with hubby and bargain when he gets her to do more questions. Son will complain but he will get work done.

I feel so heart-ache reading this, how did the parents bear to cane their children for their own \"selfish\" demands/expectations, let alone whipping
Not that it's no good to \"push\" the kids but I feel there must be a limit or balance. Is it worth to strain/spoil the relationship for results?
They are only children once, I already feel so sad for them that they are not enjoying their childhood. I wouldn't trade results for my relationship with them. I cherish them more than their results.
I will only cane them if they misbehave intentionally, e.g. refuse to follow instructions or defy us, cheating/fighting/lying, things like that. I've seen parents hitting their kids when they spill drinks, which I thought are accidents so why are the kids being punished for \"accidents\"? Yes, they should be taught to be more careful but is hitting the only way? -
There are parents who will go to that extreme…to make sure their kids go to top schools…RI or RGS for example. Pity these kids, bcos they are studying for their parents’ face…for parents to brag.
My cane is when they misbehave…and I do ask them if they know why they are caned. Talking back, telling lies etc etc…definitely for those reasons. -
As a kid, I was slapped by my dad only once when I was 4 years old. It caused me a bad nose bleed. Now more than 20 years down the road. I still remember it. It’s how much impact it caused me.

The heat is definitely on...once PSLE dates are confirmed, registration fee next followed by payment for PSLE booklets 2008-2012 and past year exam papers. All the best for 2013 kids and parents.
