I hope this incident serves as a reminder to all the other parents. Kids are innocent.

Sad to read this…when come to safety, nothing should be left to chance I feel. Such a pity that a young life is lost this way.

          nms1:
Those who are trying to blame the developer are pointing fingers in the wrong direction. Not everyone has children so they cannot be expected to build everything to those standards. It is the parents' responsibility.

While the parents have responsbility, I disagree that the developer has no responsibility. It is foreseeable that some of their buyers would have children. It was irresponsible to put in railings where the gaps are so wide that a child can crawl through.

There should be already in place statutory guidelines for developer to observe safety.

We do not know exactly what happened, so PEACE everyone.

All parents staying in high rise block with young toddler, do ensure safety to prevent tragedy. Since maid has to do household chores & do cooking, can’t keep an eye on toddler 24/7, perhaps can put him in infant care centre.

The parents of this sad tragedy (no one want it to happen) will regret their mistake whole life. They ignored the danger warned earlier. "Yi Shi Zi Cheng, qiAn gu hen". Very, very sad.

The statutory guidelines are inadequate. Just look at:

                (1) The laundry deathtraps at many HDB blocks; and
                (2) All those balconies in new condo developments that are impossible to cover with grilles. Some of the rails are made of glass somemore.

These are just tragedies waiting to happen. Singaporeans should grow out of their clutch mentality where everything they rely on 'statutory guidelines'. That's why I say both the parents and the developers are responsible.

Young couples should seriously take into account whether that 'dream home' is safe for their children before they sign on that booking form.

I find it very sad that the 2nd chance given to them was not cherished.

The child has been saved once & something could (& should) have been done to narrow the gap to avoid recurrence. But .........

I did not check the BCA website for a list of guidelines for developers. So I do not intend to dispute your claim that existing guidelines are inadequate.

I do not know about HDB laundry deathtraps, whatever these are?

I do know home owners are allowed to install grilles next to the sliding doors leading to the balcony. It is up to home owners to make sure the grilles are securely locked.

                    PEACE.

                      Question is

Have we take our own family safety for granted?

It is very wrong to blame the developer. It is the parents' responsibility to look after their own kids. For this case, it is the window grilles in private estate...what if it is HDB flat? As long as there are young children, there are always dangers in the house.
