        A man is 4 times the age of his son. 4 years ago, the man was 6 times the age of his son. What are the ages of the man and his son?

        Still stuck on algebra…

          Let x years old be the age of his son.

          The man's age will be 4x years old.

          Four years ago, the son's age is (x-4) years old.

          Hence the man's age is 6*(x-4) = (6x-24) years old.

          Form an equation with the man's current age and his age 4 years ago.

          You should get:

          6x-24+4 = 4x

          2x-20 = 0

          x = 10

          The son's age is 10 years old and the man's age is 40 years old.

          I don't remember primary three math to be so complicated.

                  Dear parents, need your help to solve this Equal Concept word problem. Model is required. Thanks!

                  James and Kim shared some cookies equally.
                  After James gave Kim 28 cookies, Kim had twice as many cookies as James.
                  How many cookies did each of them receive at first?
