      :?: need some advice please....

anyone knows if appeal to RVHS is still on waiting list from now to 2nd week of January, does it mean that the chance is probably very slim and not much hope ?
๐Ÿ™ understand some students already received
the transfer letters....seems like hope is fading....
๐Ÿ˜ž anyone can share some info on last year appeal cases whether anyone successful on the waiting list ?

So far, i have corresponded with the principal many times via email...(but i have never call the office). I submitted the appeal form with testimonials and certificates of achievements. I also got a testimonial from the music teacher about her flute talent..Maybe I refuse to believe that my DD didnt do as well as she should be as she has been in the top 10% of the cohert until her PSLE. but I am getting tired, really tired. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Share a little story with you. This PSLE daughter used to top (top 1%) her school until P5, the year I took her out of school and homeschooled her. She took that year to do sports and other stuff. When she returned, to our horror, she became the bottom of the class. It was the top class, but she was the last girl. It was a blow to us, and I started to think what a mistake I made.

In P6, she traveled 6 times to do sports. So she had no time to study. She came back just a few days before prelims in august to take her prelims. Of course, she did not do very well, because she did not study. We thought it was ok, prelims only mah, so we banged on her PSLE. For her PSLE, this time, we are prepared, since she is my third child, I know she will score close to full marks for Maths, like the rest of my kids. Guess what? She had 3 cysts on her eye, and on the day of her maths paper 2, they burst. She spent 30 minutes cleaning those blood and pus up, she could not finish the paper or do the questions. They did nothing to help her. Subsequently, the school wrote a letter to MOE for consideration together with a letter from the doctor. The consideration they gave is to use her prelim results against her peers, which is the paper she did not study for! Her score, sadly is badly affected.

There's one thing left. Mum and dad's support and perserverance. That's all she has. She has us. I called one and my hubby called the other school. Non stop. Now we get her into a choice school.

Hope this gives your heart wings and recharges you. Let the past be the past. This one PSLE result does not determine your child's future, unless you let it. Go for it! Even if they tell you no, just keep asking. The door will open. One person will give up the place for another school and if you are the only one left standing outside the door, the principal will give it to you.

If they have asked you to go for the auditions, your daughter is 'take-able'. Bang on that. Even if you get a no for an answer, keep going back. Your daughter will thank you for that. :ugogirl:

PSLE is to place your child into a secondary school only. It does nothing else. Trust me on that.

Thank you 2ppaamm for sharing your heart-warming and inspiring experience. I applaud you for encouraging your children to thread the untrodden path. Incidents like these remind us about the imperfectness of the system, which is why we must neither lose heart nor belief in our children and their capabilities. PSLE is important, but it is not everything. For those who made it to Secondary school next week, remember that it is the start of the rest of your lives. It is how you run the next 2-3 laps that will determine the opportunities that will open to you in the future.

I called Crescent Girls. The lady in charge of appeal told me to call back on Monday. She said they are waiting for vacancies and will be able to let me know on Monday. The whole of this weekend is again burnt worrying. ๐Ÿ˜ข

Yep, nobody will remember your PSLE score very soon. Nobody talks about it anymore. In fact, nobody remembers the O levels, or A levels results (I certainly cannot remember mine.) But I know I did well enough to get to U and then I moved on to Postgrad.

Today is the beginning of the rest of your life. Don't let yesterday spoil it!

My daughter got 238 and was posted her second choice school - commonwealth sec. When I found out that COP for Crescent (her 1st choice) was 240, I was very tempted to appeal as she is a school netball player in her primary school and has a good chance of getting through. But my daughter strongly disagreed with us as she felt sheโ€™ll be able to do better at commonwealth where there are only 5 express classes and the average COP is not far from hers. Moreover she rightly pointed out that at Commonwealth sheโ€™ll be able to do triple science and double maths (a choice given to all their express students) and this opportunity might not come by in Crescent if she is at the bottom of cohort. Infact though she didnโ€™t qualify for HMT automatically, she was allowed to take HMT after sitting for their internal assessment on the registration day. So donโ€™t worry if your child did not get into their first choice school as every cloud as a silver lining.

Wishing all of you a happy new year.

I am very glad you have such a wise DD. My DD didnt mind either school, clementi town or crescent. All I want was an answer (yes or no) from crescent so I can get on with clementi town. But crescent is not able to give an answer and has told us to wait till Monday. My DD is very strong in languages and she loves chinese. She is doing HMT in Sec 1. Does anyone here feels that HMT should be given creditials for entry to all schools in the future and not limit to SAP schools?
