Hi smartmummy,
regarding maths,lurline:
Smartmummy,
It is difficult spot questions or topics... even if you spot correctly, it's only for 1 paper/ exam, it's not a long term solution.
Just find out where are the weak areas and focus on it.
He just hating corrections. This is the new topics. He just starting to learn.after few practise he will do.
regarding sci,
hmmm...i have to start doing revision on p4,p3 topics.i planned in dec holiday, but didn't execute. have to do in june holidays. The problem is i have to keep in touch with all those topics to mark his answer.simply lazy me.
Jiayou! P5 still has lots of time to fine tune. The core topics actually are in p6, especially under section B.Just make sure your dc grasp the concepts.Sci is alot on application these days.
DD started to go into full swing in p5 and she achieved A star in PSLE.
All the best!!

thankyou Excel99!

smartmummy, today my son cried cos the qns are tooo difficult.we just do the mcq maths qns in p5 maths. :yikes:
i think he just create drama.he wanted see tv cos special movies.he distracted.
not only maths and sci but languages as well.
difficult to manage the time.he mostly don't have time to read books.its affected eng.
perhaps you can help your boy plan a realistic study schedule that will provide adequate time not just for study, but also for rest and play. Then help him stay with the plan. Don't label that he creating a drama; he might be getting your attention or that he is too tired? If you already know that there is a special programme and it a good one that he won't want to miss, discuss and plan with him to block that time but he has to finish his revision first. Remember, it is equally important to allow him to recharge his batteries before he suffers from burnout .smartmummy:
First thing first - for Science - do not guess which topics nor questions will be tested. Our P5 kids are now into learning and doing the PSLE exam format and thus everything they learnt at P3 & P4 for Lower Block Science + what they learn in P5 Term One and Term Two will be tested.how to guess which topics from p4, p3 will be tested.cannot revise all.no time to do that. this term circulatory and respiratory systems of plants and humans, cells.i can guess p4 plant and human sytem would be tested.but i cannot guess what other topics related.so wait for t inform.its about one two weeks before exam.
It is now approximately 6-7 weeks before the SA1 and you can work out a time-table with him on the various topics. Going by the theme it will be:-
1) Diversity
2) Cycles - Life Cycles, Matters and its 3 states
3) Systems
4) Interaction - Magnets
5) Energy - Light, Heat and Temperature
I am no expert in coaching my DD1 with Science and being a full-time working mum, I do not have much time to sit by her to do the revision. It very much depends on her own self-discipline and time management to get revision done. And the next thing I want to share - you might not agree but to me it is important - manage the expectation for our P5 kid. I have taken a different attitude because excessive expectations for my child will only increase anxiety and frustration and may even hamper the child’s development. -
Thanks champion for ur time.appreciate much!
He told me that 1pm has a movie.I told him ok ,if u finish ur revision by 1pm I let u to see. Then after do the English correction he on the TV and saw that another movie, watched about half an hour. Then I asked him to do the correction on maths. He just don’t wanted to do.These qns Eng and Maths did earlier in the week not the same day.Only do the correction on that day.not much work.I explained the reality of P5, after he got headache(I don’t know why he got),I thought I scared him a lot.So this round I just loose a bit. When we started CA1 revision also he react like this. Then he come on the track, now again he goes out of the track.Have to pull him back again.I never expect from him a lot.If he just meet his potential.I am happy with that.If he drop marks I just analyse and work on it.
5 more weeks to go to SA1. Maths take a lot of time. 4 days return home at about 4pm.Then need to do hw. -
It's great to see so many hands-on mummies here :salute:
Keep it up! -

you are lucky to be informed of topics...when son was in p5 sitting for ca1, i was told, 'everything from p3 up till where teacher stop'.
different schools teach different topics at p3 and 4.
daughter in p3 is taught living/non-living things, animals, plants, fungi & bacteria in term 1/2...material will be taught in term 3.
for term 2, cycles of plants and animals while states of matter is taught later...so i have to get lower block science for p3/4 preferably bundled together. -
when u do revision on science, do u get ur child to remember the spellings of certain words n impt sentences?
I am clueless when to do revision for my P3 boy. Normally,I’ll highlight the words or sentences b4 going thru him.He likes science, but keep yawning when i read thru the assessment books wf him.Shld I just give him assessment straight away?? -
I gave my then p3 a highlighter and got him to highlight his own key words in the guide. I will highlight key words of model answers when we sat down together.
We have a book to record misspelt key words.
Although my temper rises when he could not get questions we had gone through before correct, or get wrong for those questions he got wrong before, he still likes me to go through science with him.
I could still do lower block topics alongside him and compare our answers, but for upper block, I relied on answers and him and we discussed how to derive our model answers. -

yes...have to learn spelling of essential words like antenna, continuity, spores, moisture etc.when u do revision on science, do u get ur child to remember the spellings of certain words n impt sentences?
