All About Church/Clan/Society Membership

Yes, the child needs to be baptized. Baptism cert of the child is required to qualify for Phase 2B.

can i check what is the difference between joining PV and Clan since both of them needed to do volunteer except for Clan, where a registration amount is required? would it make more sense to join as PV instead of Clan since they are both in phase 2b? how do one prove that one is a hokkien? thanks

ya i think the difference is that PV is based on RC where the line is subjected to variation and more risk…
-
i realized there are pros and cons for clan memberships vs PV vs RC
1. RC - dependent on whether you are in the GRC or not. Boundaries tend to change. No gurantee can get recommendation letter. Need to do early if need to secure better chances of recommendation letter.
2. PV - intense competition as the gate is lower meaning there is no membership paid or need people to intro, except living near the school. But PV can only occur near to the registration date, 1.5 years before the school.
3. Clan/church etc - paid upfront membership fees, do PV but no guarantee that can get recommendation letter…better to do earlier than the min 2 years as competition can be stiff.
So can one do clan’s PV in the specific school and then apply to do school PV in the same school ? provided one got all the time… -

RC - If you qualify under P2B, you are able to choose any school within the GRC/SMC.i realized there are pros and cons for clan memberships vs PV vs RC

If I am not wrong, clan's PV is non-school specific. Your volunteer work should contribute towards the clan, not the school. So can one do clan's PV in the specific school and then apply to do school PV in the same school ? provided one got all the time..
You may do all those if you have the time, but that will not increase your chance of getting a place in the school. Once you qualify to apply in P2B, when it comes to balloting, your child will not be treated differently from others who qualify for P2B. -
actually i meant that the clan route does not guarantee you a recommendation letter even after all the membership payment, services renders and meeting all the requirements. Hence just out of thought, would it meant a safety net if can do both the PV and clan’s PV? haha…i dun think i got all the time so got to weigh carefully…

It is true that being in the Clan doesn't guarantee you a certificate of recommendation for your child to participate in Phase 2B of the associated school's P1 registration.
It is also true that being selected for PV doesn't guarantee that the school will give you enough jobs to make up for the required qualifying hours.
So there are inherent risks in either approach. If you have time to do both, you will qualify as the quintessential KiasuParent :salute: -
lchunleo,
normally one parent won’t have time to do both (PV in school + GRL) concurrently. But if 2 parents, may be possible. Perhaps you can apply for PV in school, while your spouse try the GRL route. You may apply both ways - see which way accept or admit you in first, then decide from there. Take one step at a time. -

But, just because you do both doesn't guarantee you will ultimately qualify under P2B, right? It is true that being in the Clan doesn't guarantee you a certificate of recommendation for your child to participate in Phase 2B of the associated school's P1 registration.

Hi parents
I wish to join as a SHHK member and would need endorsement from 2 SHHK members.
If you could help me, please PM me.
Thank you and appreciate.
