Last Sat, my elder boy had 2 baby teeth and 2 adult teeth extracted - extraction of baby teeth is $55 each, adult teeth is $95 each. Next appt will be another 2 adult teeth extraction. Braces package $4000 excludes extraction and medicine (painkiller).

      There were some stitches.

Is it normal to feel itch on the gums? What can we do to alleviate the itch?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Jennifer, how come there are stitches and itch on the gums ? It doesn't sound quite normal. You might want to check with your dentist or ask for a second opinion.

We weren't told of needing stitches before the extraction. I assumed the stitches were to minimise bleeding after the perfectly good adult tooth were taken out?

Will call the clinic later to clarify, esp the gum itch. Many thanks for the advice.
So far, for my dd and my friends' kids who did teeth extraction before braces, none of them needed stitches. I was in the room with my dd when the orthodontist extracted her 4 adult teeth.... it was quite fast for each tooth. Quite skillful, I must say. There was bleeding but she was told to bite hard on the cotton wool given. The bleeding stopped after a while and she could eat later on.

Just wondering how your dentist is going to put in the braces if there are stitches. The braces are usually fitted after one week or so. Probably for yr son's case, he might need to wait till his gums heal.

My DD felt a little itchy for a short period of time when the extraction was done. but it was gone after a couple of days. Maybe u can wait and see if it subsides? As for the stitches, she didnt go through that so Im not that sure. 🤷 maybe you can check what it is about?

        Thank you all for sharing.

        The itch has subsided.

The dentist confirmed the stitches were put in to close up the hole originally occupied by the adult tooth, wont affect the braces.

            hi,

My 11-year old DD had Damon braces fitted by Dr Arthur Lim of The Implant and Oral Surgery Centre (http://www.iosc.com.sg/en/arthur) recently.

Was told that these braces, which work using a thin wire to pull the teeth together, is faster in terms of duration of treament (1-1.5 years) and require less frequent appointments (6-8 weeks compared to 4-6 weeks) and supposedly less painful (she has seen him 2-3x and only the first time the braces went up did she complain of discomfort). It's abt $5.5k for everything, inclusive of all appointments.

Incidentally, I was told that it's best to start braces when the child still has a few baby teeth left so that there's more room for adjustment.

And no, this dentist doesn't exactly practice extraction but natural movement.. or maybe my kid is lucky and didn't have to extract!

Anyone whose kids have had these Damon braces done before? Just wondering, belatedly, whether it's too good to be true...

            Thanks!

My DD had Damon braces since Oct last year. She needed to extract 4 teeth as her teeth were seriously overcrowded (literally overlapping!).

Her teeth have straightened amazingly now, forming a beautiful arch. We are amazed by how fast everything has worked. She goes back for adjustment every 6 weeks or so. There is usu some discomfort for the first couple of days after each adjustment, but no pain.

Her orthodontist says the whole process usu takes about a year. We are looking forward to Oct this year šŸ˜„

My DS has a slight gap between his front tooth and the school dentist has given him a referral letter....Maybe will try Dr Tan.

Not sure if he needs braces for that.. šŸ˜„

Anyone tried Invisalign braces? Was quoted >$8000 by a specialist.

                  What are Damon braces?

Our orthodontist also does not practise extraction. Both both my kids didn't have to extract. One is off braces already - on retainer now.

My son got his braces done at emBRACE dental surgery. He didnt need to extract any teeth though. However, i paid $4200 for the whole package including all adjustments. Quite reasonable.
