Wah, isn't this stressful for the pupils from Westwood Sec?Some schools even if they are not on IP program, they also include upper sec work when the students are in lower sec. I'm speaking from experience.
I have a student in Westwood secondary. He is sec 2 this year but his school is doing sec 3 physics and chemistry syllabus. This is not the only secondary school doing this.
If any of you engage private tutors, please make sure they know both the lower and upper sec syllabus.
Standards in this school must be very high if this is the case. :scared: -
No news yet for SA1.
DS has to do his own notes for Geography. Seems like they get graded for that. -

It's just an average secondary school with entrance scores of 210+

My student told me that his friends are always making a lot of noise so he finds it hard to concentrate in class. The school teaches the topics very slowly. He has no issues coping with Sec 3 Physics and Chemistry syllabus. -

Good way to let the brain have enough time to digest and absorb the concepts and be ready for O levels. -
son just told me…sa1 in 6 weeks’ time.
class tests are very important as it helps to bring up marks for exams…next week 2 tests coming up. -

No.....CA1 results are not out....
CA1 results should be out by last month. Not many guides books for Sec 1, unlike PSLE.mummy so kiasu:
Thanks for the advice, Augmum.
My DD said that her teachers gave them notes, so she doesn't want to buy any guide. However, as I usually work late and can't help her, I thought it is good to have some guidebook. Maybe I should wait and see her CA1 results first.
Pupils only get to know the level tests' results, but not OVERALL CA1 results
For DHS, CA1 refers to the period from Jan to May....
Loveclouds,
u can refer to my posting in DHS....the breakdown of percentage for sec1 exam.....
Thanks Augmum,
Very useful info. As I don't check on her work and sign only when she passes the papers to me, I panicked when I saw one of the HCL tests she got C (big difference in marks from pri sch). For other subjects, so far so good.

Dont panic lah.....C is a rather common grade for HCL in DHS...( esp so for first few tests)
Yes.....is a big shock when compared to HCL marks obtained in Primary sch....
Dont need to feel discourage, instead continue to thrive N work hard on it...
The sch environment, together with their HCL teachers' teachings and curriculum would bring them to greater height.... -
Anyone can share how your kids prepare their SA1 as there are so many subjects to digest!!!!

I also told her that BGR is not good at this age and my friend knows that too. But she feels that by imposing that rule, she is not being fair to her boy. I don't think she will want to talk to the school about this. Anyway, I told her that teens need to feel very loved at home or they will need to find 'love' elsewhere. They don't make good decisions at this age, often full of attitude but we as parents just have to still show a lot of love instead of quarrelling with them.
This is a very sensitive topic. Lucky my daughter hasnt had this issue yet. I dont really know how to advise as I had my first boyfriend when I was 16.
At beginning of the year, we attended DS' school talk. There was a briefing from the school's councillor and were told that BGR is a big No No.kwcllf:
Got a friend her sec 1 son got girlfriend now. How?
I told her to send him to school and pick him up whenever possible so it will cut down the out of school interaction time with the girl and maybe that will make the relationship die a natural death. Upfront confrontation I think is not a good idea.
Perhaps, your friend may want to get some advice from the school's councillor? -

:rahrah:Son received his first results from common test...A for history, geography, math and home economics (fried rice). English, Chinese and literature he has B.
I encouraged him to continue working hard and not be complacent. I am happy for him...it is a form of motivation to see A.
