      Suz855:

      Am pleasantly surprise too, think dd 's teacher rushing to covered the Maths syllabus by term2 then probably it will be practice papers all the way to psle, wonder now whether it will be overdose ....
      :oops:

      It is normal for school to complete syllabus by term 2. Revision for Prelim & PSLE will follow.

      Yap, my dd school will also finish the syllabus by term 2. Term 3 onward will start to revise for PSLE.

                Speed is not a topic that can be mastered easily. If the school teaches them early, it's a good thing.

                Yeap agree. Its quite a long topic and must memorize the table of the formula. Glad that DS school teaching and he practicing in school and for tuition now.

                Hi,

                I'm just wondering what do you mean when you say Speed is a \"long\" topic with \"table of the formula\".

                I was just browsing through the P6 text book (just to make sure) and there are only 2 important concepts, understanding and finding Speed and Average Speed.

                One of the easier to remember the formula is the triangle.

                Distance
                -----------
                Speed | Time

                Distance = Speed x Time
                Speed = Distance / Time
                Time = Distance / Speed

                One easy way to remember is to remember \"Slow Turtle\"

                So S and T is at the bottom of the triangle.

                I think the few other important concepts to know is
                to convert the units from km to m to cm and vice versa.
                And also hr to seconds.
                And also km/h to m/ min to cm/ s

                And make sure your child knows how to transfer the info from the question to the distance/time line and able to label all the point and direction correctly.

                Feel free to add other important concepts to know about Speed.

                Cheers,
                John

                  When will school/MOE ever ever wake up to what it is doing to its pupils.

                      Hi ngl2010, one of my students told me his Math prelim is on 19/8/2013...so most probably one week after National Day. 🙂

                      I did a search online and managed to find SCGS Prelim dates too. So maybe the dates are around the same.
