is the answer 385?

Number of girls -> 21
Number of boys -> 28

cards given out :

1 boy - > 1u, 28 boys-> 28u

1 girl -> 3u, 21 girls -> 63u

Total cards -> 28u + 63u= 91u --> 1001

1u -> 11

63x11-28x11 = 385

all the girls received 385 more cards than the boys.

can i also use this method?

drew 7 units, 3 units for girls and 4 units for boys
since each girl received 3times as each boy
so i put 3 in each unit of the girls and 1 for each unit of the boys
total 13 in each group
1001 / 13 = 77 groups
the number of boys get - 77 x 4 = 308
the number of girls get - 77 x 9 =693
693 - 308 = 385

i didnt use the \"49 children\" as a clue though

The method is about using equivalent fractions. There are two fractions 1/2 and 4/5, we try to make the numerators of these fractions become the same to solve this exercise.

1/2 = 4/8
4/5 stays the same

Hence, we have 4/8 of Joshua's savings is equal to 4/5 of Megan's savings. We can use 4 boxes to represent this equal part. Thus, Joshua's savings is 8 boxes in total, while Megan's savings is 5 boxes in total.

The next step is basic and your child can easily continue.

Further Discussion: If the question gives: 3/4 of Joshua's savings = 4/5 of Megan's savings, then we can do as below:
3/4 = 12/16
4/5 = 12/15

There were 120 / 3 = 40 P5 girls

Each P4 girl received 5 souvenirs,
There were 180 / 5 = 36 P4 girls

40 - 36 = 4 (more P5 girls)
