Thanks xhxie! Any idea how students are selected? What grades must they attain? And how are students graded? I know that in RI 80% and above is 4.0, in ACSI 80% and above is 7 points n with 6 subjects and 3 bonus points a student can score a max of 45 points in ACSI. Can anyone tell me more about HCI's scoring system? Also, I heard that those who do well consistently during the year are exempted from year end exams. What are the minimum requirements? TIA
HCI scoring system is different from RI. HCI scoring follows O-Level.
75% and above - A1
70% - 74% - A2
65% - 69% - B3
60% - 64% - B4
55% - 59% - C5
50% - 54% - C6
<50% Fail
For Sec 1 students, promotion criteria is C6. means average score C6 and above will be promoted to Sec 2.
For Sec 2,3 students, promotion criteria is B4.
For Sec 4 students, promotion criteria is B3. Students with average score B3 and above can be promoted to JC
To eligible for CSE, Sec2 overall result average score should be < 1.5 -

Anyone heard of any students trying to DSA out of HCI to RI, ACI or NUSH at end of sec 2 or vice versa? Is this act common among the top IP schools?
No, rather, we have students DSAing out of RI into HCI.

hi xhxiew, thanks for sharing. any idea if they have a quota for CSE each year or the students are automatically posted to CSE so long as they obtain 1.5 or less? For Sec 1 students, promotion

Around how many cases of more than 3 at sec 4 each year and not promoted to HCJC ? Where do normally go then? -

MdmKS:
CSE does have quota: total 120 students. 30 for HP, 30 for BSP, 60 for SMTP so some students were not posted to CSE although their score <1.5. HCI has selection process in Nov and Dec.hi xhxiew, thanks for sharing. any idea if they have a quota for CSE each year or the students are automatically posted to CSE so long as they obtain 1.5 or less?

Not sure how many not been promoted to HCJC. you may ask this during Sec 1 parents symposium which will be held in Jan 2010.

DecJan:
Hi DecJan, my DS will be joining HCI. Hope we can share more. Was expecting a briefing on that day, but there was none. Basically, we registered, obtained a folder containing booklist, 3rd language letter, giro payment, orientation programme sheet, etc. Then we proceeded to buy uniforms and books. Was surprised that a lot of books are optional (including the higher chinese texts).
As to choosing HCI, our preference is a school with \"chinese teachings\" that will inculcate eastern values in DS for the next 6 yrs. Also, HCI is very established in both the Secondary (former Chinese High) and JC (HCJC) sections.
All the best to your appeal to HCI!
Anybody knows what time sch usually ends in HCI (CCA & non-CCA days)? -

Happy New Year. It's great to hear that our sons will be schoolmates. Didn't you accept DHS earlier? I was busy the whole morning bringing my son on bus trips to and from HCI and also from HCI to the MOE language centre at Ghim Moh. Is your son taking 3rd lang? You do know the schedule for 4th to 7th Jan, don't you? If not, you can see the time-table at HCI's webpage.

according to the list in the folder given on 23/12, you are to wear a PE T-shirt with khaki shorts and to bring an extra set of PE attire and shorts, as well as a water bottle of at least 1 litre. Maybe bring along a pen and a notebook in case you need to note down something.
