Need help trying to understand what the question is asking for:

5/7 of the pupils who are seated in the auditorium are girls. There are 48 now girls than boys in the auditorium. How many more pupils are seated in the auditorium?

I think the question should be 48 more girls. If so the ans is 112 pupils. Is the answer correct?

5u = girls
2u = boys
5u-2u = 48
1u = 48/3 = 16
16*7 = 112

That is correct. Should be \"48 more\" girls.

Same working I had. However, I am having difficulty understanding the question. Why do they add \"more\" instead of asking \"What is the total number of students seated in the auditorium?\".

there are many similar examples as the ones you posted with solutions. But I think these questions are more for P3, not P4, so look into the P3 thread as well. If it is for a P4 student, the student needs someone to go through the basic concepts with him/her asap.

When sister was born, father was 10 years old :yikes:
When ken was born, father was 14 :yikes:
Anyway, ken and father age diff is 14. we want to find out when will ken be half is father age, so we multiply 14 by 2. meaning when father 28 ken is 14.
ken is now 9, it will take 5 years to reach 14. sister is 13 now, so five year later , sister is 18.

the age gap will be 23. therefore when son turns 23yrs old , father will be 46 and sister will be (+4) 27. :?

Draw the above ; should be able to see B is 5 more than A, ie B=5+A

A+B=75
A+(5+A)=75
2A=70
A=35
