What is your opinion about SAJS and Maris Stella vis-a-vis overall development of the child (values/morals, character building etc.) vs. Academic focus?

My friend's son p1 this year.

Last year my friend was a parent volunteer in sajs. He was given the phase 2b letter from the school after clocking all the required pv hours and could have easily got into sajs, via 2b. However, he did not enrol his son into sajs & instead finally enrolled him into Kheng Cheng primary, under 2c. means he gave up his 2b privilege. i asked him why ? He replied that while clocking his pv duties, he witnessed the actual students' behavior in the school, did not wish to put his son grow up there. Some of the boys speak vulgar language, rowdy. Chinese also quite weak.

Maris Stella and SAJS are both boys schools. Rowdy behaviour is to be expected. If you read the Maris networking thread, it also has bullying issues etc. You may want to try Maris if Chinese is important to you. It is a SAP school.


Ultimately, distance to home is more important.

Hi, wondering what are the chances of my DD getting into Nan Chiau? My HB will be SHHK member for 2.5 years by the time when we need to register our DD for P1. We are staying 1km within the school.


Or should I shift to amk, as I am old girl of Anderson pri sch?

If you are old girl of Anderson pri sch and DD register for Anderson pri sch in the earlier phase before 2B - sure get in already… no need to move… so register first


Then NanChiau, if you can qualify for 2B (get the letter from SHHK - no guarantee get letter even if member for 2.5 years - must be active I heard) , monitor the situation during 2B and decide whether you want to withdraw from Anderson and try NanChiau… the risk is if u fail NanChiau, you cant get your Anderson seat back, you can try anderson or nanchiau again at 2C.

Note : at 2C, being an old girl of Anderson doesnt give you any advantage anymore, its by singaporean first, then distance.

I’m glad i stumble into this thread and i didn’t expect it to be up so fast! haha…
I hope someone can provide me some advise regarding my situation.

Currently, I am staying within 1km of a SHHK school. Apparently it is the only school at my neighbourhood whereas the rest are 1-2km or >2km. My hubby is a SHHK member but not active thus not sure if we will fall under Phase 2B. We have expressed our interest to participate in the activities however so far was not selected.

On the other hand, I have another house at Bt Panjang but is renting out. I think is within 1km of BPPS & Zheng Hua Pri.

1) Should i try for P2B in the SHHK school (either thru SHHK or PV) and if fail to get into P2B I still go for P2C?

2) Or should i stay put in my current place and get into PV in those school which is >2km (PLMGS or Haig Girls).

3) Or should i move back to Bt Panjang and do PV (which i know BPPS is not taking PV) or I just try my luck into P2C since there are more neighbourhood schools.

4) Or should i just try for Tanjong Katong Pri as i think is affliated to my ‘close-down’ primary school in which i will fall into P2A2?

Please advise. I’m lost!

First thing you should do is confirm that Bt Panjang house is indeed 1km of BPPS & Zheng Hua Pri and your closed down primary school is indded affiliated to tanjong katong primary and you are indeed qualify for p2a2.


If above is correct go ahead and register for tanjong katong primary at p2a2 - alomost 100% in

at 2B monitor and decide whether you want to try for the SHHK school (if you get the SHHK letter) - need to give up tanjong katong primary if you want to try...

if you try the above and fail, at 2C monitor and decide again if you want to try the SHHK school again, or try Zheng Hua (high chance, as never ballot before see below):

distance will only come into consideration if the number of registrant exceed the number of vacancies. this is a 99% unlikely scenario at P2A2…

This one I not sure… personally I would not take a verbal "should be" from MOE over the phone.
Whether MOE or School give the "should be", I will request for black or white, or email or link confirming it…
