2015 P1 Registration Exercise for 2016 In-Take
-
Hi,
I’m glad i stumble into this thread and i didn’t expect it to be up so fast! haha…
I hope someone can provide me some advise regarding my situation.
Currently, I am staying within 1km of a SHHK school. Apparently it is the only school at my neighbourhood whereas the rest are 1-2km or >2km. My hubby is a SHHK member but not active thus not sure if we will fall under Phase 2B. We have expressed our interest to participate in the activities however so far was not selected.
On the other hand, I have another house at Bt Panjang but is renting out. I think is within 1km of BPPS & Zheng Hua Pri.
1) Should i try for P2B in the SHHK school (either thru SHHK or PV) and if fail to get into P2B I still go for P2C?
2) Or should i stay put in my current place and get into PV in those school which is >2km (PLMGS or Haig Girls).
3) Or should i move back to Bt Panjang and do PV (which i know BPPS is not taking PV) or I just try my luck into P2C since there are more neighbourhood schools.
4) Or should i just try for Tanjong Katong Pri as i think is affliated to my ‘close-down’ primary school in which i will fall into P2A2?
Please advise. I’m lost!
TIA. -
First thing you should do is confirm that Bt Panjang house is indeed 1km of BPPS & Zheng Hua Pri and your closed down primary school is indded affiliated to tanjong katong primary and you are indeed qualify for p2a2.
If above is correct go ahead and register for tanjong katong primary at p2a2 - alomost 100% in
at 2B monitor and decide whether you want to try for the SHHK school (if you get the SHHK letter) - need to give up tanjong katong primary if you want to try...
if you try the above and fail, at 2C monitor and decide again if you want to try the SHHK school again, or try Zheng Hua (high chance, as never ballot before see below):

at 2C you can also consider Tanjong Katong Primary again - last year first time ballot for 1-2km, earlier years never ballot at all - see :

Thanks PapayaDad for your advise. It does help me to think better. Hahaha.
If confirm my ex-school is affliated to Tg Katong Pri, you mean i ‘secure’ a place under P2A2 in Tg Katong Pri, when come to P2B stage, i can withdraw from Tg Katong Pri and re-submit to go into P2B of another school if i find that my chances is gd in SHHK?
Sorry i may sound silly to ask this question cos i just want to ensure my DD can get a place in a nearby school.
Btw, there is no distance consideration for P2A2? As i think i stay 1-2km of the affliated school.
How can i confirm whether is my ex-school affliated? I called MOE and they verbally say ‘should be’. Do i need to bring my report book to the school to ask?
Advise needed. TIA. -

Yes

distance will only come into consideration if the number of registrant exceed the number of vacancies. this is a 99% unlikely scenario at P2A2…

This one I not sure… personally I would not take a verbal "should be" from MOE over the phone.
Whether MOE or School give the "should be", I will request for black or white, or email or link confirming it… -
Twins mum,
Kindly write in to Tanjong katong primary school, address yr concern to the school principal - inquire if your tkps recognise your ex primary school (which was not tkps) to allow you to enrol your child under phase 2a privilege.
Whether the answer is yes or no - all these had to be recorded in black and white. In the event any future dispute arise, the black & white written communication will serve as useful evidence.
If the reply from tkps school is yes - ask further : " is report card sufficient to bring on that p1 registration day in July 2015, or other supporting documents are required as well? If yes, what else does the school need from you? " all these qns must be precise.
If the reply from tkps is no and they had explained to you the reason why no, then you look for the next school in mind, for your child.
Send in your email first. Give them some time to respond. If after 4 days still no reply then call up the school to follow up, ask to the speak to tkps principal himself. If he is busy, leave your name & contact Hp behind, convey message to his staff to call you back. Must speak to the principal, behind he holds the authority & decision over all school matter.
In the event the reply is yes -
on the actual phase 2a registration day in July 2015, pls print out this email bring it along and show it to the enrolment duty p1 registration officer as proof - that indeed the school had authorized you, to allow your child to enrol under phase 2a. Because the p1 duty registration officer may not know much about your ex primary school. This email is also important, because just in case there is a change of school principal for tkps. (Just in case only) -
Hi PapayaDad & phtthp,
Thank you so much for the comprehensive explanations. Greatly appreciate both your advise.
Btw, i heard much that TKPS is like a multi-national school (all different races & citizenship), is it true? is there any link where i can find out more about TKPS and its niche?
Beside these, can anyone advise me how or what o expect for twin registration? really hv no clue.
Thanks! -

School History
Looking Back...To Look Forward
TKP History
Looking back, Tanjong Katong Primary School has an interesting history. After the merger with Haig Boys' Primary School, Fowlie Primary School and Mountbatten Primary School, TKP opened its doors on 2nd January 2001 with an enrolment of 1700 students. The 'Open House' on 15th July 2004 boasted an impressive musical, 'Winds of Change' which depicted the transition from three schools to a big TKP family. The musical performed by the students garnered accolades from all present then. The vibrant spirit of community and unity was aptly captured.
Since then, TKP has been well-known for the high proportion of international students. These students come from diverse backgrounds. As a result, TKP was branded by the media as an 'International School'.
In recent years, as we gained popularity and support from the local community, the intake of international students has decreased gradually. Local students take up the bulk of the vacancies. As of today, the student population is mainly made up of local students and the 'International School' label is now part of our history. -
Twin girls! So envy…
Registration processs is same…
This part i not 100% but i heard if ballot is required, you can either ballot together, both share 1 ballot slip, if balloted both girls go in… or ballot individually, each get own ballot slip, run the risk of one getting in and the other not… -
Hi PapayaDad ,
Wow! You are very informative! Thanks so much for the write-up of TKPS.
At least it does give me an insight of this school. Yes, I was a student of Mountbatten Pri
I think i should make a trip down to TKPS & have a look. I'm quite worry on the holistic of the students. My girls are easily influence by their surroundings. Haha!
Don't envy me
Having them are really very handful. Anyway, I'm blessed to have both of them.
Side track..yours is a DS? in 2009 too? -
DS in P2 liao…so i am over the p1 registration race…
P1 registration is only the first step… still so many…PSLE, Sec school etc etc…
Interestingly TKPS offer unusual CCA - golf, cricket, bowling, pottery - source wikipedia and confirm in the 1st moe link above
I also didnt do the write up on TKPS history - copy and paste from the school website…
all the best!!
