Pat's Schoolhouse

smurfy:
recently i attend a birthday party organized by my kid's classmate parents. one of the mummies who had an older kid graduated from pat's.. said something is missing in pats now.. majority of us have doubts now.. even though our kids are in K2, we are all wondering whether we should let our younger kids continue in pats.....
Yes, same thoughts. -
mtdt:
During my primary school days, misbehaving children are punished by being made to stand outside the classroom door. Sending a misbehaving kid to another class is pushing a problem to another teacher. Strange method and don't agree with it.btw this yr I also heard of pri sch kids being send to another class due to behaviour issues.
P1 cannot be send to any lower levels... but I heard of kids being send to Malay lang class during their chinese lang time.
So this \"sending out to other class\" seems common -

sending to a lower level, is a drastic measure which i don't see it in any way encouraging... in fact, it might just make the child develop a inferior complex..smurfy:

maybe it was because of the freshie teacher assigned to them in K1 and K2.. totally does not live in pat's values....whereas during playgrp and nursery time, their teacher (Same but since then left pat's) practically u can hear her echoing pat's values and beliefs in the way she talks... i am sorry to say that my child's k2 class are fearful of their teacher.. their teacher is like a disciplinary mistress who count down in order to get them queue up or do things faster.. one mummy mentioned her child was punished to go to a K1 class (for a while) because he cannot behave well... it's like a real joke.. another mummy said her child nag at her non stop to make sure the pencil case was put in the school bag immediately just in case the mummy forgets.. at least two mummies commented the teacher have brainwash them that when they go primary school, they will not have time to play...
oops... my monkey boy was also being put into nursery class due to his uncontrollable behaviour! And the K2 tr brought his nursery brother over to K2 class! Knowing my boy's monkey nature, I do believe sometimes trs just have to do some drastic measures to some kids so as to \"wake them up\" (not all kids of cos)
for no time to play:
in CC there are always playground time whereas not for pri sch. Recess is tat miserable 20mins really wont have much time. Infact for k2, the trs already reduce the outdoor time to 1-2times a week. The tr explained to the kids that is to adjust to primary sch. and they are bigger now, with more things to do. Thus playtime needs to reduce. My boy took it quite well... -

true... my era was also to stand outside the class.

Was surprised to this new trend and surprised that the malay tr actually bother to take in the kid!
maybe both trs had barter trade!
u dont want to study chinese... fine... u go malay class.
same on the other side - attitude during malay class... ok u go chinese class. :stupid: :slapshead: -

Am sure it shd be a last resort....

for my boy - i know the various steps/ways the tr did try on my boy before this. So I was ok and further add on and explain to my boy in the same line as the school.
He also \"understand\" why it happened and of cos promised wont happen again. Well it didnt happen again and so far in pri sch also still safe and sound. So hope he really did learn his lesson. -

that mummy definitely dun take it well after 2 such attempts and called the principal up..

what i want to say is.. that teacher does not live pat's values.. imagine u see the kids scrambling quickly to queue up coz the teacher was counting down 5....4... 3....2...1...it's preschool.. not army daze or from boys to men... -

true that it wld be sad if the kids end up with unhappy experiences / memories from their presch.

my boy loves his presch and we recently had a gathering. everyone had a great time chit chat and catch up.
maybe the new / old pats really different.... -
All the above bad feedbacks shocked me. My girl had very encouraging and patient teachers in Pats last time. Infact, they were a lot more patient than me! She had very wonderful learn through play experiences although I must agree that the teachers did instilled more discipline as the kids progressed to higher level. As for pri sch, her teachers are also very nice.

my younger child's teacher can sms me last year to ask me to put my child back on diapers coz they spent too much time to change the kids.. whereas the older child playgroup teacher then kept on encouraging us to let the child wear undies.. luck luck luck -
