Assume 25 five cent and 25 twenty cents

      125 + 500 = 625… too little, need to increase 225

If we increase 1 twenty cents, we need to reduce 1 five cents… net result is increase 15.

      225/15 = 15

So we need to increase 15 twenty cents from the initial assumption (25)
      25+15=40

There are 40 twenty cents and 10 five cents
      Check
      40 x 20 = 800
      10 x 5 = 50
      Total = 850…correct

          Hi

It doesn’t look like a P4 exam type of question.

Can anyone help me to explain how to teach my kid on this question:

Mrs Goh had a sum of money . If she bought 32 apples and 9 oranges, she would have $10.40 left. If she bought 12 apples and 24 oranges , she would have $14.40 left. Given that she had $30, how many apples and oranges could she buy?

                Thanks and regards

                  Hi

                  32 apples + 9 oranges ------ 19.6

                  12 apples + 24 oranges ------ 15.6
                  (divide by 12)
                  1 apple + 2 oranges ------- 1.3

Make the number of apples the same.
                  (x32)
                  32 apples + 64 oranges ------- 41.6

                  (minus)

                  32 apples + 9 oranges ------ 19.6

                  55 oranges ------- 22
                  1 orange ------- 0.4

                  1 orange ------- 40 cents
                  1 apple ------- 50 cents

                  Number of apples ------- 60
                  Number of oranges ------- 75

                  Best wishes

                    Hi,

Kindly help to solve these 2 qns :

                    1. Siti, Rahmesh and Peter had 528 stickers at first. Siti bought another 32 stickers, Ramesh gave 1/5 of his stickers away and Peter was given as many stickers as he had at first by his father. In the end, all three of them had equal number of stickers. Find the number of stickers Siti had at first.

                    2. Siti had 6 times as many apples as David at first. Siti had given 450 apples to David, they had an equal number of apples.
                    A) Find the number of apples David had at first.
                    B) David gave away some apples and had half the number of apples Siti had. How many apples did David give away?

                    Thanks.

It was posted before. But there is a mistake. It should be Siti bought 33 stickers instead of 32 stickers.

                      Change 32 to 33, and you’ll get Siti ----- 171 stickers@first.

Due to time constraints, I’ll not draw the MD, just some pointers

                      In the end

                      Siti ------- 4u

                      Ramesh ------ 4u

                      Peter ------ 4u

                      At first

                      Siti ------- 4u – 33

                      Ramesh ------ 5u

                      Peter ------ 2u

                      11u ------ 561

                      1u ------ 51
