If distance is not an issue, the 3 schools that you posted are good schools.

You mentioned 240 and above, is there a cap? If not, then there’s RGS, SCGS, MGS

Errrrrr, no guarantee that girls will not get distracted by BGR issues in girls’ school.

You can consider Cedar Girls’ and CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’.

Both are not too far from Punggol.

DD also Punggol…same questions…although she is hoping to go to CEDAR (as they have Track and Field) CCA, am worried about commuting time.


I hear from most other Sec kids that they are off to school by 630am and back home only by 7pm and then sit down to do homework which finishes around 1am and the same cycle goes on till some kids drastically either loose weight or loose interest in their studies.

I am seriously, therefore, considering Edgefield Secondary…anyone have any idea about the teaching there…more interested in quality of teaching than the position of the school in terms of COP.

Nan Chiau High (SAP) should be quite near for your dd. It is better than Edgefield. However, you can still put Edgefield as your 2nd or 3rd choice. Cedar Girls' is not very far. I stay in Sengkang & my Sec 1boy is in Catholic High. We put Nan Chiau as our 2nd choice. Better schools tend to offer better programmes, environment & facilities.

Both schools should be at least mid 250s and should be in the top 20 and not the typical 240ish schools. If can go to either, you are spoil for choice!

I think it’s more important to work hard to get the desired results first. With good results, more schools will welcome you with open arms.

If you are staying in Punggol area, Crescent Girls is too far away for you. Transportation is also not that convenient. Although the nearest MRT station is Redhill, you still need to walk about 7-8 minutes in brisk walking.


Meanwhile, many people usually consider a good school from the PSLE aggregate Score and cut-off points, me included.

But now, I would like to think that a really good secondary school is one that is able to produce good GCE O Level results after taking into considearation the cohort of students it takes in after PSLE.

But too bad, MOE no longer publishes BANDING. Perhaps, if anyone has info on PSLE cut-off points and GCE O Level Banding, we can share the info. Of course this will be unofficial. Then we can really see which is a really good secondary school.

The last time MOE published banding was in 2011. You can still refer to it if you have. My boy sat for PSLE last year & I got a copy of a 2011 sec schools selection book from my nephew. Found the additional info very useful. Choosing the right sec school is very important.

We are in the upper serangoon/ hougang area. My dd has set her eyes on TKGS and Crescent Girls. Our 1st choice is TKGS as we can drop her off in the morning after dropping her siblings at their primary school. It's along the way. It's near my mum's place so she can drop by after school for lunch, etc... Though we do not have direct bus to TKGS but it's still not that inconvenient.


For Crescent, ytd I realised that there is a direct bus (51) from our place. She was excited about it. She prefers Crescent girls to TKGS for computer learning, etc... She even told me that she can \"sleep\" in the bus, morning traffic should be ok, etc.. (btw, ds has problems waking her up every am so for her to be so \"determined\", it's a surprise). I told her that well.... in worst case, you will wake up at Jurong interchange.

Someone we know goes to crescent girls too and they are at the macpherson area. Was told there is a bus from dhoby ghaut MRT and it's a short ride to crescent girls... Have not try that out.

Both are good schools and if she can make it to either, we will be :rahrah: So now .

BTW, I used to study in a CHIJ sec school and I would say that the more \"suppressed\" the girls are about opposite sex, the wilder/ more curious they become..... So I am unsure if all girls school is truly a temptation free place.

I take Bus 51 to work, but the opposite direction from your home. Not sure how the Bus 51 service is from your side and timing but what I experience is really terrible. Infrequent service and long intervals (I have written in to complain to SBS and LTA several times). I suggest you really try out the bus service first. Even if you take MRT and change to Bus 51 at Dhoby Gaut, the journey is still considerable, in my opinion. And to do this everday over 4 years, it could be pretty stressful, especially if need to rush and wake up early.
