James76, I've pm you my therapist contact. All the best!

Thanks for your PM. Also wanted to update on Unraveling Autism. I was able to talk to someone from the clinic yesterday. They sounded very professional and took the time to answer my questions. The best part is getting an appointment with them for a consultation next week. So far, I am quite satisfied. Will see how the appointment goes.

Has any mom faced discrimination from the school before in the form of lies being told about the child's behavior or having their special needs child being shouted at? If so, can you share how we are able to deal with this effectively? Thanks in advance!

Communicate with the school and the teacher, Windie.

Windie, whether NT or special needs, I would be very concerned if the school is lying about or shouting at the child. My eldest gal is NT, and I recall pulling her out of her preschool back then when we saw the teachers shouting at the kids when they misbehaved. Although we did not see the teachers shouting at my gal, seeing them shouting at the other kids was enough to make us uncomfortable to continue with them.

I believe in open communications with the teachers when it comes to the kids, but if all else fails, maybe its time to move on.

          My two cents worth.

If the person is well-meaning and not just being nosy or nasty, I would say \"what makes you ask that?\", and take it from there. That has happened to me before - it was a good friend who is a teacher and learned about ASD in her studies. If the person intends to alert me or sympathise or offer advice, I won't be offended.

My son attend EIPIC and mainstream CC in alternate mornings. Some parents did ask me before \"is your child attending a 2nd kindergarden on top of this childcare?\" I told them nope, he is attending EIPIC cos he is autistic.

I don't feel ashamed nor offended. Autism is a condition. If we are ashamed of our kids, how will they stand tall in front of other people next time?

I decided to be open about it because there was once, another parent whose kids are in the same class as my son ask me why he is attending another school as well. I told her he is a bit speech delay... then she goes \"oh its okay one lar. not autistic right???\" I told her \"yes, he is also a bit autistic as well\". I can tell the mother is a bit awkward and embarrass by it. I felt bad. Why do I want to dodge the question in the first place?? Even though I don't need to announce to the whole world my son has ASD, but I also no need to hide it .. cos I think for my son, his condition at his age now is quite obvious esp when he starts to talk.

I dun feel inferior or ashamed of my son's condition. He is just different but NOT less. That is what I been telling myself.

                  Dear nugget,

You have not meet such parent like that, when you tell them your child is ASD, they immediately go to the school and request to change class/ withdraw their child from the center, because they don’t want their child to pick up bad behavior from ASD child! Guess what, that mother is a pre school teacher!

                      Braverymom,

If I were in that situation, I will be offended but I won't care less cos there is nothing I can do. As long as she don't request my kid to get out of that school. Its for the school to handle that parent.

My child is mild enough that's why they allowed him to be enrolled. If they want me to withdraw, they got to give me a very very good reason.

We got to deal with many people, not everyone is understanding.. Sometimes we got to bear with unpleasant remarks and we need to be thick skin enough to deal with it..
