Most of the band one sch are offering double science, a and e maths to most of the classes. I share the share view as nebbermind. It is not so crucial to study triple science anymore. I think Medicine needs chemistry n one other science subject. I think it is not abt how many subjects but rather the child must be good in the six or seven core subjects so as to get into the desired jc later. In tt sense I would not prefer nan hua over bukit panjang just because nan hua provides triple science for all classes.

Yup... I think most ri boys are taking triple science. But there are boys taking only 2 sciences. I rem during the year 2 talk last yr, the p was saying there are boys who chose to take only 2 science because the boys wants more time to pursue their other non academic interest or cca. She assured parents it was perfectly alright, nothing wrong with 2 sciences. I would think so too. Ultimately a level needs only 4 subjects n admission to u is based on 3. I think character n leadership development are equally impt in the adolescent years.

Yup... I think most ri boys are taking triple science. But there are boys taking only 2 sciences. Any one in the west eyeing nan hua.?

Was looking at bukit panjang govt high and other 240s schools in the west, and read this. ...

Bpghs due to the distance and that it s a band 1 school as compared to nan hua ( band 2) But nan hua is all express and heard from a friend's daughter that almost thevwhole of sec 3 except for 1 or 2 classes are doing triple science as compared to bpghs with only the best 2 classes doing triple science.( she s from bpghs). Really can't decide and therefore have not submit the choices yet.

What do you think?

I wonder where can can we get info on how many classes out of how many classes, the school will offer certain subject mix.

You staying in between the two? They are quite a distance apart.
I thought these days they donch waste time on triple sciences coz only need physics and chem for medicine.

I stay nearer to bpghs.but saw two boys study nanhua at my area. I still secretly hope son can embrace chinese culture and go sap school. Read that NHHS can take normal chinese too. True?

I thought it is good to take hcl in secondary sch because if yr child can pass the hcl exam at o level, the child need not take chinese at a level.

Agree. So hcl is useful for those taking olevel and I assume IP A level. But not IP.IB.
But wonder if hcl chinese in secondary school will it be very tough.

You are right! HCL is useful for entry into A lvl for non IP.

But HCL has been such a chore :imdrowning: for my family

Agree. So hcl is useful for those taking olevel and I assume IP A level. But not IP.IB.

Not too sure how the ib system works. There was a bit of discussion in the asci thread last yr regarding this. I think it is good to give it a try in sec 1. If the child really cant cope or does not like, then just drop to normal Chinese. But for ip a or o level, I think I will insist the child to try for 4 yrs. Hopefully, by the bell curve effect, he can still squeeze into the B or C grade since I believe many in his generation dislike chinese too.

Paper 2 higher chinese is quite tough. Ds1 did not do well for hcl exam. But then I think it is more of his attitude n not ablility. I think there is normally the case.
