      helplessmum3:
Do u mummies feel very hard or knife cut into the heart whenever u see your ASD child's peers talk n communicate ?

helplessmum, I am just being candid. Hope you dont mind.

I think in a way I can understand your pain as your son is the only child, and the pain becomes more poignant and magnified for you. Maybe for parents who have other NT children, the impact is somewhat softened. At least for myself, I see in my elder gals the things that my ASD doter doesnt have, and that gives me some comfort.

But like what Double E says, things are always relative. One thing that I have always been thankful about is that my doter's intervention methods are not invasive. Imagine if she needs to be poked with needles all over for her condition, that would really break my heart.

      :hugs:

All mummies experience certain degree of pain n I believe u r too. It seems the way u r dealing with your emotion is to express it frequently n negatively. There is no right or wrong in dealing with pain. I am in pain too. Usually when I look at other children, it is a feeling of joy. They r so young, adorable n innocent. Of course there r moment of weakness n I feel sad when I think of my son n started comparing. But I would brush it aside n do not dwell on my pain. My method of dealing it might not be right. However I do not want to be crippled by this terrible emotion. U have to be careful n do not let your negativity affects your husband n especially your son.

As what double E has said. U r indeed so much luckier as your son is hf n verbal compare to parents like myself. treasure what u have like how I treasure mine.

Yup! I am currently dealing with 2 ASD and 1 NT boys. All active. It is very frustrating at times, but with the help from people around me, especially husband, that make life easier. In fact my NT boy is more difficult to deal with.

You have enrolled your doter in Pathlight right? how was it? was the registration successful?

Double E, I have submitted our application, so now waiting for things to happen. Hopefully we are given a chance for school screening by second half of the year, and hopefully she stands a chance to get into the school next year.

The feeling of waiting helplessly for things to happen is really bad. But other than that, I have done all that I can, and now things are out of my hands.

BTW, just a tip to keep enough time for yourself when going through these applications. There is much co-ordination between parents, the EIPIC school and the hospital in getting all the reports - psychology report, school report, medical report, parents' application etc - and its best not to leave everything to the last minute. After our first submission the application was bounced back cos we did not submit our diagnosis report and that ding-dong for a few more days.

              Thanks ImMeeMee for the tip.

I am still waiting for my IQ test which should happen next month. Although I made up my mind to let him go mainstream, but in case I really change my mind, I don't know if I have time or chance to enrol into pathlight or not. I am getting stress and jitters again. I better call KKH CDC for the date on the IQ test.

                Braverymom,

Can I ask how old are your boys? Like you I have 3 kids. My eldest is diagnose with HF ASD @3.5 years old. My #2 is okay. My #3 who is coming to 1, I am monitoring closely. When did u discover your 2nd ASD show symptoms? My #3 is not even 1, I really can't tell if he has ASD or not. So far he is reaching all his milestones.

You are indeed a tough mummy. I already feel tired handling one.

                  Helplessmum
Actually, instead of comparing your boy with the NT kids, you should either compare his progress year on year or other ASD kids around his age and functionality. This comparison is fairer and at least give u an indication of what your kid should be doing by now and what he is lacking. But dun just compare and feel depress, do something about it. Worry takes you no where except the dead end.

Your doter is 6 this year right? Hmm, my boy will get his IQ test done next year, I think by then I will decide whether to put him in pathlight or mainstream. Do you know if we can submit application when the kid is 5 year old, or must be 6 year old?

Do you know how much is the school fees? I heard is $500 a mth. Wonder if the price has increased.

Double E, I was told that parents can submit applications earlier, but screening will only be conducted during the second half of the year for enrolment into school at the next calendar year. As I understand, PL no longer takes in kids at 6 yo. Its P1 Foundation program only admits 7 yos.

You may also want to consider timing your psychology assessment within the right age where your child is matured enough to take the assessment. I have heard of some parents saying that their KKH doctors telling them to hold the psychology assessment as the child is still too young. It seems that the usual age range is between 5 and half to 6 yo.

Official data sets the school fees at $500 per month, am not sure whether there is increase so far. There are schemes to reimburse fees, but I have no details yet.
