      Nugget ,

Average iq meaning can suit into mainstream already …as his iq is as average as his peers… Why psy still recommend pathlight ?!

What is yr son psy’s name ?

Kkh premises does not conduct psy test , which place did u go?

Does the iq test require yr son to comprehend ?

        Double E:
        Nugget,

Can share what the IQ test entails and what is the duration? I may have asked this before but if you don't mind, I would like to hear from your experience too.
        Double E,

        No problem at all.

The test is about 2 hours. I am glad I got the morning slots cos he is more alert.

He started off doing blocks. Psy do one one pattern, son suppose to do the same pattern. They did a few combinations. Then later Psy how a picture of the blocks, son suppose to do the same pattern based on the picture.

Next they start to ask questions like -
How many colours are there on a rainbow, name me one colour?
        What is a dog?
        What animal has feathers?
        What animal gives milk?
What do you use when is it is raining?
What falls down from the sky and is wet?
        What is a shoe?
        What animal says meow?
These are some that I can still remember.

Next is writing skills. He is suppose to cross out those that doesnt match. He is given 2 mins to do as many qn as he can.
Followed by another writing task, something like tracing.. also 2 mins. Do as much as he can.

Then after this is finding category and matching. Suppose to tell psy which picture belong to same category or same pattern. Consists of pictures, shape and patterns.

After this, they start to interview us about his behavior in school. Feedback given by his CC teachers, EIPIC and therapist.

        Hope this helps 🙂

It cost about $179 after subsidy.

Psy still recommend pathlight cos son needs a lot of prompting before he can answer. In mainstream school environment, the teacher wont be standing there to prompt and prompt and prompt.

Pathlight is meant for average or above average kids but their environment is modified to help out kids focus. I know my son definitely can strive in pathlight. But I still want to give a shot at mainstream first.

Yes KKH doesn't conduct psy test. But they forgot to slot me in for psy test which is due in next month at their satellite clinic. So they manage to find a psy to do for me at KKH instead.

            Thanks for the detailed explanation.

For those questions asked, I actually think is something that can be thought. If the kid is not taught or exposed to that type of info, even a NT kid will not be able to answer. Looks like there’s a lot to teach a 5 year old kid. And it seems like Psy likes to ask questions related to animals.

Do you think it helps to get a children encyclopedia book? Haha.
I actually think it is as the areas that they test on is so wide.

I think children encyclopedia might be too much to absorb? Its more like general knowledge questions. They also noted the speed you answer the questions. Those questions I post to my 3 year old, he can answer all leh.

Yes, my son hates animals and she kept asking animals questions. Haha. He didnt answer the cow gives milk question cos he don’t care.

But isn't the intention is to have an honest assessment of your child?
Why would one wanna mug for this? :scratchhead:

                        ImMeeMee,

Pathlight will have a open house in May. Think I should attend one of the open house and see how it is like, learn how is their environment different. So prep my son's mainstream primary school on how to help him.

Your dd screening wont start until end June. Good luck to you!
