Hi, any FTWM contemplating to give up working or reduce working hours to give the child a good Headstart for Primary 1 next year?

working parents can give a good headstart too.. why not ? of course, we need support from grandparents/studentcare for after school care..

Agreed. I am a FTWM as well. Instead of giving up working and feel bored at home. I changed job in order to have more work life balanced with my girl.

For academic excellence, if a child is academically incline, I don't think really matters if the child has a stay at home parent or not.

There are many styles and forms of parenting, up to the individuals.

There's no right or wrong, only what's right for the individual parent.

im referring acedemic wise.. i dont see any difference with kids that parents stay at home and those with parents are working..

i think working parents put in more effort as we do not have much time with them..

for myself, i set up routines for homework, assessment books in the weekday evenings..my childs are coping well, no issues in learning or catching up etc..

so, i would think it's the kids ability to cope and also what parents are doing to help the child.. it's not whether the parents are working or stay home.. in term of time, of course stay home parents can afford more time to plan, coach.. but it does not mean working parents cant do that.. so long we manage our time well..

so, ladies, dont give up our job ! heh heh..

To be a stay at home parent or not is a personal choice. I doubt there's an upper hand in either situation, under normal circumstances.

I would think the nature of the kids play a big part as well…that said, if strictly for academic purpose, I think it is still a cheaper option to get a tutor to come daily to supervise and coach rather than to stop working completely.

btw, im seeing more kids of 2007 wearing spectacles…DD’s class after the eye checkup in march , 2 more are wearing… we must really get them as much outdoor as possible… those wearing spec… mostly i know (after asking their parents) is from playing games/watching vidoe etc from ipad…

Ha,must chip in a bit on this…my 2 girls started wearing glasses mid K1 with pretty high power. Came as quite a shock as they hardly watch TV and ipad time was like at most 10 mins on some days… It was also discovered by chance because they have never complained about not being able to see in school or things being blurred. Maybe they have never experienced clear vision before…so when they start wearing specs, it is like a whole new world to them..

really ar ? but during their development checkup at 3 yo their eye sight should have been checked and noticed any unusual ?


if parents both wearing specs, doc said likely…(genetic wise) kids will wear earlier… but i think just try our best to take care of this part… if have to wear still have to wear… lasik is very advance nowadays

HI I don’t remember there was eye sight check in the usual checkups. I think usually the first eyesight check is in K2 where MOH people would go to all the kindergartens. We have also not noticed our kids squinting their eyes or reading at particularly close distance either. But having come to terms with it, I think it was a blessing in disguise that it was discovered before it starts to affect their learning in school.

ok.. DD had her eye sight check at 4 yo at polyclinicn as im following their developement milestones (in their health book), the check up is FOC

and DD had her first eye check in school at K1, this year K2 is second time check up.

Last year after their K1 eye check up, 1 boy started to wear spec.. this year 4 students altogether..
