      Tan was given a sum of money. He spent $460 on Monday and 1/3 of the remainder on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he spent another $300. Then Tan realized that he had 0.2 of the original sum of money left. Find the sum of money Tan was given?

        Alvin and Ben had an equal amount of money. Every day, Alvin spent $9 and Ben spent $7. When Alvin had used up all his money, Ben still had $40 left.

        a)How many days did it take to use up all his money?
        b)How much did each boy have at first?

        Please help, Thks.

        (I'm really not sure.) :clubmyself:

          Using ratio -> 9 : 7

          Alvin : Ben
          9 units : 7 units + $40

          9 units -> 7 units + $40
          2 units -> $40
          1 unit -> $20

          Total for Alvin -> $20 x 9 units -> $180
          No of days to use up all money -> $180 / $9 = 20 days

          Each boy has $180 at first

              2kg mutton.....$16
              6kg mutton......$48
              48-16=32
              32+20=52
              52/4=$13 :imcool:

                Tan's money --> 10 units, 0.2 of Tan's money = 2 units
                remainder after spending $460 --> 3 parts

                2 parts = 2 units + $300
                remainder --> 3 parts = 3 units + $450

                Total = remainder + $460
                10 units = 3 units +$450 + $460
                7 units --> $910
                10 units --> $1300

                Tan was given $1300

                cheers.

                  1) Lydia spent $1735 on a television set. She spent 1/4 of the remaining money on a camera and still had 1/3 of her money left. How much money did Lydia spend altogether?

                  2) Dylan and Richard went shopping with $340 and $545 respectively. Dylan spent twice as much money as Richard. After shopping, the amount of money Richard had left was twice the amount of money Dylan had left. How much money did Dylan spend?

                    1)

                    <-------TV----------><1u Camera><3u Left>
                    <--------------6u--------------------><--3u--->

                    5u -> $1735
                    1u -> $347
                    Total amount spent -> $1735 + $347 = $2082

                      2)

                      Dylan -> 340 - 2u -> 1p
                      Richard -> 545 - 1u -> 2p

                      680 - 4u = 545 - 1u
                      3u -> 680 - 545 = 135
                      1u -> 45

                      Dylan spent 2u (2 x 45) = $90

                        3) Danny’s key chains was 5/6 of Pamela’s key chains at first. Pamela gave 3/10 of her key chains to Danny. Danny then gave 1/4 of his key chains to Pamela. In the end, Danny had 32 fewer key chains than Pamela. How many key chains did Pamela have at first?

                        4) Lina bought a box of jigsaw puzzle. She fitted 2/7 of the pieces of the puzzle on the first day. On the second day, she fitted another 120 pieces of the puzzle.
