what schools papers are closer to the PSLE standard?

sometimes due to lack of time we as parents want to choose which schs are \"closer to psle standard\" so we can pick the exam papers and let our child do, not waste the time and do everything and stress everyone out.

so i employed different strategy now, especially for math as my ds goes to http://www.therightequation.com.sg for math classes, the tutor actually told me to bring some of the 2012 sa1 papers i bought and then she will select the important key qns for ds to do. which i feel is working well now. my nature is extremely kiasu, actually i want ds to do every paper but there is really no such time.

sometimes i feel so much to do, so little time we have, why not do selected qns from each top schools paper instead. ds havin Sa1 in less than 2 weeks. cross fingers!!

              Hi Neosan60,

I applaud you for choosing one of the most effective exam strategies.

I also feel the same way. Exam papers are set based on concepts...\"what concept should I test the child for this question?\" and the teacher will set in the manner that achieves this objective...so select top school papers questions based on the concept you want your child to learn/ strengthen/ practice etc...

in fact, two big categories will be routine and non-routine (heuristic) questions.

Paper 1 consists of more of routine questions.
Paper 2 is the exact opposite.

              Mastering math has 5 levels.
Level 1 : Understand the topics.
Level 2 : Learn and understand the concepts (how the questions are phrased)
Level 3 : Apply what you have learnt.
Level 4 : Test your knowledge and get feedback by doing (right vs wrong answers)
Level 5 : And go back to step 1 by using the wrong answers as indicators of wrong/ misunderstood concepts.

Repeat 5 levels for both paper 1 and paper 2.

              My 2 cents,
              John

DS had oral exam last week. He only got 39 out of 50 while the class average is 41.5.

Sigh... I don't know how to help him improve. We don't speak Chinese at all at home. I even think of finding somebody in China that can do daily conversation with him via Skype everyday but I guess they won't know about things such as hawker centre, HDB, etc :?

interesting 5 levels, will think about it. i believe math is actually the easiest subject with the right tutor, right attitude and right strategies.

any advise for the other subjects? 😄

I think even the Mandarin we speak is also that the perfect type...oppsss...
Hmm...ever thought of getting a Chinese tutor just for the conversation part...or any relative or cousin to help? just saying...

The grandparents speak Chinese but we don't live with them. I guess the grandma can help but her conversation is always \"What did you eat today?\" :rotflmao: Maybe I should give them topics to discuss :scratchhead:

Daily tuition in Chinese is expensive :moneyflies:

I agree on the money part...sounds like time to spend more time with grandparents...\"remind me of how I used to learn Cantonese from my nanny when I was young...

i think give them some time for bonding bonding too...then conversation will take place naturally when they just want to chit chat... 😃
