The use of 'You' in Sentences
-
Few days ago I came across this:
A man: You smell good today.
The woman:  I smelled bad all this while? Only today I smelled nice :spank:
:rotflmao:
How should we give a compliment when someone smelled nice??? -
Jennifer:
For me, I make switches between we and I when it comes to kids' homework. If it is school homework, I think I would usually use 'You', while when it comes to something I have set for them, I would use 'we'. Now it makes me wonder if that is the reason why they 'siam' our homework... :scratchhead:
I agree with Slimkhoo about schoolwork.concern2:
On another thread, we discussed the use of the word 'You' in sentences, and that it should be avoided. (see this link: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=55123&p=995795#p995795)
This is a thread for further discussion in this topic.
Anyway, as I was typing the word 'we' in the last thread, I had a feeling that it becomes 'nobody's responsibility. (Vaguely reminded of a quote about 'somebody', 'someone', 'anybody'...) Simkhoo mentioned the use the word 'we' inappropriate as homework isn't hers but the kids', and the word 'responsibility' came to mind. -
aiyo, gave me a fright leh. I was posting and suddenly my post got popped to page 3 when I distinctly remember it should be only the 3rd post.
Mods, :thankyou: for merging

This confirms my observation that many Singaporeans (myself included) have quite poor skills when it comes to accepting compliments or gifts from others.Few days ago I came across this:

There are slightly different versions floating around. Here's one: There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.On another thread, we discussed the use of the word 'You' in sentences, and that it should be avoided. By the way, my ID is sLmkhoo, not sim or slim - my fault for picking an ID that is so hard to read! They just happen to be my initials. -

Maybe should say \"Hm....sniff sniff, where is that nice smell coming from?\" Then resting the eyes on the target and say, \"Ahhhhh\" and smile. - Aptly avoid the word 'you' !

And yes! Thanks for the quote!
