      milo-cupcake:
      Can anyone help with the following question?

      http://i40.tinypic.com/333z4v4.jpg\">

      Thanks in advance.
      concepts involved:
      1) total quantity remains unchanged
      2) work backwards

      method 1:
      http://i44.tinypic.com/35koqi8.jpg\">

      method 2:
      http://i39.tinypic.com/fn45q8.jpg\">

      method 2 is for explanation purposes (since if it is a p4 qn, not allowed to use ratio) 🙂

                    I try.

                    PS is 1/6 of PQRS which is the perimeter. So perimeter will be 6/6

                    PS = QR = 1/6

                    So PQ = SR = 2/6

                    PQ - PS = 2/6 - 1/6 = 1/6 = 6cm

                    So PQRS is 6x6cm = 36 cm

                    PS = 6cm, PQ = 12 cm
                    Area of rectangle is 6x12 = 72cm sq
                    Shaded area = 56cm sq
                    so unshaded area = 72 - 56 = 16cm sq

                      5 x 2 x 53 = 530 degrees
