          Pls help the following qns - no urgent.Thanks

          Q3)During a fund raising project, class 5A raised 2/3 as much money as the total amount raised by classes 5B&5C.Class 5B raised 1/5 as much money as the total amount raised by class 5A and 5C.
          a)What fraction of the funds was raised by class 5A?
          b)Class 5B raised $104 less than class 5C.How much money did class 5C raise?

          TIA.
          Funds raised by Class 5A --> 2/5 of total ... (5A --> 1 unit, 5B & 5C --> 3 units, total 5 units)

          Funds raised by Class 5B --> 1/6 of total ... (5B --> 1 part, 5A & 5C --> 5 parts, total 6 parts)

          1 - 2/5 - 1/6 = 13/30

          Funds raised by Class 5C --> 13/30 of total

          13/30 total - 1/6 of total = 8/30 of total --> $104
          1/30 of total --> $13

          Funds raised by Class 5C --> 13 x $13 = $ 169

          cheers.

            1 2/5 m = 1.4m = 140 cm
            1/4 of 140 cm = 35 cm
            Total knitted = 35 cm + 45 cm = 80 cm

            Fraction of scarf knitted --> 80/140 = 4/7

            cheers.

              Pls help the following qns - no urgent.Thanks

              Q4) There were 20 more pears than plums at a fruit stall.After 1/5 of the pears and 3/10 of the plums were sold, there were 46 pears and plums left.How many plums were left over.

              TIA.
              Plums --> 20 units
              Pears --> 20 units + 20

              Left:
              Plums --> 7/10 x 20 units = 14 units
              Pears --> 4/5 x (20 units + 20) = 16 units + 16

              Total of 46 pears and plums left, so

              14 units + 16 units + 16 = 46
              1 unit --> 1

              Plums left --> 14

              cheers.

                Why plums---> 20 units, can we assume plums--->10 units, do we find common multiple of 5 & 10?Thanks

                  cheers.

                    Q2)The ratio of the number of girls to the number of boys taking part in a swimming assessment was 6:5.The assessment showed that the ratio of the number of girls' swimmers to the number of girls' non-swimmers was 5:2.The ratio of the number of boys' swimmers to the number of boys' non-swimmers was 3:2.
                    a)What fraction of the children were non-swimmers?
                    b)If there were 30 more boys' non-swimmers than girls' non-swimmers how many swimmers were there altogether?

                    TIA.

                    Total girls : boys = 6 : 5 --> 42u : 35u --- total --> 77u
                    Boys' swimmers : Boys' non-swimmers = 3 : 2 --> 21u : 14u

                    Girls' swimmers : Girls's non-swimmers = 5 : 2 --> 30u : 12u

                    Total number of non-swimmers = 14u + 12u = 26u
                    a) fraction of the children who are non-swimmers = 26/77

                    Total number of swimmers --> 21u + 30u = 51u
                    Boys' non-swimmer --> 14u
                    Girls' non-swimmer --> 12u
                    2u --> 30, 1u --> 15

                    Total number of swimmers --> 51 x 15 = 765

                    cheers.

                    How to find 42u : 35u --- total --> 77u,guess and check for G=G.swimmers + G.non swimmers, B=B.swimmers +B.non swimmers, or any short-cut? :thankyou:

                      since total number of girls : total number of boys = 6:5
                      we multiply by 7 to get --> 42 : 35

                      cheers.
