Travel: Australia - Gold Coast

This was our last stop. We went direct to Tangalooma upon arrival, then moved on to another hotel, which I can't remember the name now because it was so bad! It came with our F&E hotel and air ticket package. I was glad I did not extend in that hotel as suggested by the travel agent, but booked the seaworld resort on my own instead. I need to caution you that seaworld resort is a little out of the way from the main Surfers paradise area and so it is best if you have a car if you plan to stay there.

How do you find Tangalooma? Is it worth the visit? Read some reviews that it is quite run-down.

We are planning to go whale watching and based on some reviews, it appears that pelican feeding is included in the catch-a-crab cruise. Am not sure if we should be visiting Tangalooma as well as it seems to be doing more of something similar.

The dolphin feeding was nice at Tangalooma. Sand tobogganing was tiring. Long climb up the slope, but kids had fun. It wasn't a terribly exciting visit, but was relaxing. We went after a red eye flight, so took the first day easy. Just let the kids play on the beach and went to check out the kookaburra feedings that evening. Did the sand taboganing and dolphin feed on day 2. Day 3 morning we left for the mainland.

The time we went was some years back when I was 5 mths pregnant with DD. So a slow visit was just right for me. If you want to be on the go, there are more things to do there like quad bike etc. But things on the island is not cheap, but not too expensive either. Just not a budget destination.

Regarding the resort, it was ok and perhaps a little old and definitely not as nice as resorts in Asia for the price you pay. More a chalet quality only. We had one objective in mind when we went, dolphin feeding and so it was ok for us. Also you can just stay one night as well.

Am heading to GC in June too! Will be there on 6-10 June Will be going to Paradise Cty Farm, Seawld and Moviewld and 1 day free for Skypoint & shopping!

The last time I was there, it was Nov so the weather was warm & sunny. Do you ladies think it wld be cold during this period? I've got a two 7yo kids with me so want to ensure they have adequate warm/light clothes for them.

Depending on individual’s threshold but will need a sweater. Can be cold (I have low threshold) in the nights if walking along the beach cos windy.


Am going after you for a week. Will be doing whale watching, Seaworld, Movieworld, Superbee farm, oyster farm, Mt Tamborine wineries and cheese farm and shopping at Harbour Town. Choosing between Australia Outback or Paradise Country as they seem similar.

I am new here and read about your trip and travel plans to Gold Coast. I will be visiting Gold Coast on 23rd May on a free and easy arrangement.

Can someone advise me on car rental companies?

I wanted to book thru Budget car rental and saw a cheaper quote by Apex Car Rental recently. The downside is that Apex is not located at the airport. I’m just concerned of the traveling time and luggage to lug all the way there. I will be traveling with my 9 year old daughter, just the two of us.

Advise is much appreciated.

If you coming into Brisbane airport, Apex is definately the cheaper option. I tried them last year and although they are not located at the airport, they are quite near. They do provide pick up service but it is only between their business hours. Just give them a call from any public telephone, its a toll free number, and they will come and get you within 10mins. And its easy to transfer from their shuttle to your rental vehicle. I really like their service. Very friendly too.

You seemed to be happy with their service. So, it is not a hassle you think? I was thinking of the steps - calling them, waiting and then transfer. But its cheaper by almost S$200. So kinda tempted to go for it.
