Hi mama_10,
Nanyang’s GAT is conducted by Principals Academy. You probably can find out the details about the GAT from the PAI site. -

I don't know when this was but DD dsa-ed via academics just last year. It was only GAT and an interview. That was all.mama_10,
I am afraid I don't have the answers to your questions. I vaguely remember the girl told me she had to sit for English and Maths papers as well as the GAT.
I was only interested in knowing how she managed to dsa into the school so I didn't ask her about the time and number of questions.
I know not all IP schools require GAT, they have internal exams on English and Maths instead. -
spicy:
Do they actually give u a reason why they reject you? That's not very common.Getting through the GAT is only 1 of the hurdles. There was a girl who made it through to the interview session (sports) and was rejected as the interviewer assessed that based on her P5/6 results, she has a high chance to enter NYGH via S1 posting. Apparently, the school would rather reserve those limited DSA (sports) vacancies for athletes whom they assessed would have a low chance of entering via S1 posting.
Well... it turned out that the girl did well in PSLE and got in via S1 posting.
But what a waste of money, time and effort trying for DSA !
I'm not so sure about the school rejecting sports students with high academics but take in sports students with low academics? I think what really matters would be who can get that medal for the school. And there is no assurance that these students would apply for NYGH when they get their results.
I've know some students who were rejected by NYGH during DSA, they went to RGS with their results. Their theory, well, NYGH rejected them 1st... -

GAT test is managed by Principle Academy. Once you register online, you will have to choose the date and timing. According to my dd, it was like IQ test, a lot of patterns, number puzzles etc. Interestingly, NY’s GAT and RGS’ GAT were the same. But it was not really matter, except for the second test, my dd was able to do more, but she didn’t think she had significant advantage anyway. That is perhaps one of beauties og GAT.
-
Thank you. Can't remember much but, NY has a particular date for the GAT test that you are supposed to go. Dd did not complete paper either and yes, alot of patterns n number puzzles. After getting through, the interview was easy.
just make sure DD don't answer \"stupidly\". Interviews are conducted in a group.
Eg,
Interviewer : what other schools did u apply?
Girl : RGS
Inteviewer: so if shortlisted for both, which one will u choose?
Girl: RGS, cos my Chinese no good....

Hi to all, I am a newbie to this forum.
DD is interested to get in NYGH next year. Does anyone know whether DSA via other CCA (i.e. Choir) stands a good chance?
Thanks! -

Hi, I am wondering if there is any moms of sec 3 NYGH girls keen to join my daughter for Language Arts tuition as Aspen Learning Centre in Bugis.
The tuition centre only takes students from the same school for each tuition class. Currently there are mostly RGS girls there but they can start an NYGH group if we can form a group of 4.
More info here : http://www.aspen.com.sg
Please pm me if you are keen. Thanks -
Hi, just wanna ask about parents' opinion.
What factors prompt you to select NYGH say over RGS ?
Is NYGH very strong in Chinese subject?
Thanks for sharing -

NYGH is an SAP school, so there is emphasis on Chinese, Chinese culture, values , (which is what I like about the school.)Is NYGH very strong in Chinese subject?
So naturally if the child absolute hates the subject would find it a tough environment. But I know of girls who need Chinese tuition also goes to NYGH. So I would say more important would be to consider your DD's preference. But I do notice that girls at P6 has the tendency to follow their friends in the choice of school, which may not be to their best interests. -
Take your girl to both the open house of rgs and Nygh. Let her feel for herself which school will be suitable for her. Understand the school culture, environment, curriculum and CCA. She needs to be sure about enjoying 6 years in this school.

I credit NYGH and the Chinese language teachers I had for at least preserving a very basic fluency in Chinese, some 5 years since I last took formal lessons in Sec 4. I was (still am) pretty bad at Chinese but the fact that I had Chinese lessons every day and was in a BSP class effectively forced me to improve.
Is NYGH very strong in Chinese subject?
I think NYGH and RGS are both good schools - it probably comes down to factors like school culture and environment. That said, I will happily vouch for the warm, caring, friendly and nurturing environment I experienced in NYGH. -
Hi,
My girl would like to dsa via thru badminton, may I know what are her chances? She is in school team and has manage to be in one of the top four badminton team in national level. -

Hi, I was a tour guide on the open house day and I answered one parent this question as well. Basically for me, I prefer an emphasis on Chinese culture. This is definitely not the only factor. I prefer NYGH over RGS because of the 4 values it highlights on:勤慎端朴,Diligence, Prudence, Respectability, Simplicity. In this society nowadays, you often see in the newspapers many successful men or women whose future are at risks due to maybe say corruption. This is due to the lack of the any four values as mentioned above.
I fervently believed that NYGH will nurture me to a lady who embodies these four values and would further aid me in future if I were to work in the society in future.
Addiitonally, Everyone wants to get along well with their colleagues in the working society in future. NYGH also emphasizes strongly on teamwork which explains our annual camps, Lifeskills camp (LSC),Outward Bound (OBS) in secondary 1-3.
NYGH is not only a school who tells their students to 死读书 everyday, but to practice many essential Lifeskills and improvement of EQ to further co-operate with different people in the society in future. It focuses on your girls' lifelong happiness and excellence, not just the current academic results.
Indeed I did not think of so much when I came into nanyang, I just thought that I really love the values it emphasizes on and I just came in. And I never regret coming in at all. Indeed, it is a pretty stressful life in NYGH. But which success comes without the efforts? NYGH is a good school in Singapore, so definitely it is slightly more competitive and demanding than many schools. But I believe the working society now is even more competitive and demanding, so the basically just prepares us better for the future!
Reallyyyy longgggg post but I hope everyone gets to understand NYGH better. Anyway I am a Secondary Two student.
Hi Sunnyyyy,
We have the same thinking as you are. My daughter likes NYGH very much. But we heard that for mainstream DSA through academic is very hard.
May I know how you get into NYGH, through DSA (academic or CCA) or PSLE result? If DSA through academic, perhaps can share with us the process like GAT, interview etc.
Thank you very much. -
all IP schools, DSA academic will require consistent 90% overall result from P1 to P6. main focus will be P4 -P6. and that is just beginning, still got GAT & interview etc…
