- May I know do I need to pay for my daughter’s HMP at NYGH?

- With T-score 272 (+3), does my daughter stand a chance to join NYGH’s School Based Gifted Programme? And how many SBGP classes are there?

BTW, I attended 3 months of MEP at TKGS (travelling from Hougang) many years ago and I quit after 3 months. It's too tiring having to rush over after school & I often miss alot of school events due to MEP classes. The syllabus is really tough, if you do not have strong passion for music & good foundation, you'll find it hard to cope.

This I agree with Mrs Wong based in my daughter's experience.

Just a little note. My son took MEP in RI. He enjoyed it tremendously. I think his perfect tone helps a great deal.

To get into RI through MEP DSA is very, very difficult. Grade 8 is certainly not enough. You have demonstrate REAL, REAL talent. We are talking about people who spent years competing since P3/P4 overseas and locally kind. At least those are the ones I know who got in.

Hope this helps those who want to use music for DSA.

haha - jargon. AFAIK (as far as i know), \"1/9\" is the \"name\" of the class. NYGH goes by \"1/1\", \"1/2\", \"1/3\", YGWIM (you get what I mean). :idea:

Both. He was a NAFA gifted young pianist also... but he is now retired after 2 diplomas. He only plays twinkle, twinkle little stars now with his huge fingers.

Now NAFA gifted pianist with diploma also cannot get into RI using MEP. haha!!!

I am not sure if NAFA gifted pianist can get into RI, really, but I think it is very difficult. However, another boy with only Grade 8 merit got in. Another friend who has only Grade 7, but is a true performer, plays really well didn't. So I am not sure if they are looking for certs or audition performance?!:?

Actually, after going through DSA a few rounds, I found it a bit political in every school. Each discipline has a quota. For example, when my son was accepted into ACS(I) through the HAST, the swimming camp rejoiced because they can save that place for another swimmer.

Same thing in RI, both camps knew the other will take my son if the other rejects, so they just waited and see. The swimming camp asked me to apply through music, and the music camp asked me to apply through swimming. Both tell me he is likely to get in. In the end, it was very difficult for us as parents/students.

After he went into the school, he was selected for both MEP and AEP, he chose MEP.

Be aware that there is politics for DSA as well, like in everything.

You will note that some affiliated sec school will give the DSA places to outsiders rather than their own primary school kids, because they know that the school will accept them anyway, given the lower COP for affiliated school. In the end, they just want to maximize their own talent pool, and can get as much glory for their domain as possible.
