Hi parents,
My son recently prepared for enlistment into BMT, and one thing we noticed was that the official SAF packing list is quite basic. It tells you the required items, but many recruits only realise they need certain things after they enter camp and start training.
After speaking with a few NSFs and parents, these were some commonly mentioned items that recruits often find useful during BMT:
• Multi-clip hangers – wet clothes pile up quickly in bunk
• Blister plasters – helpful for route marches and new boots
• Waterproof shower bag – makes bringing toiletries to the shower easier
• Cooling wipes – useful when there isn’t time to shower
• Insect repellent – helpful for daily use in camp
• Muscle relief cream – many recruits use this after PT sessions
To make preparation simpler, we also compiled a BMT PrepKit Guide that explains what SAF already provides, what recruits still need to bring, and common misconceptions before enlistment.
Based on this, we put together a small BMT Prep Kit containing these commonly useful items, together with the preparation guide.
If it’s helpful for parents whose sons are preparing for enlistment, you can take a look here:

The kit is meant to help recruits start BMT with a bit more preparation and confidence.
Hope this is helpful for parents who are currently preparing for enlistment!
