of course not, but knowing him, he wouldn’t sit on the seat. so I think it’s a waste of $$.went to japan when he was 23 mths, and his size has not increase, weight still the same. and chatracter still the same (ie., still want to sit on my lap, etc).
but infant fare and child fare is VERY different, byt nearly 75%. infant fare is only 10% of adult fare, but child fare is 75% of adult’s. -
Hi
Any brave parents out there have brought their 1-2 years old on long haul flights, e.g. 12-24 hours?
I am worried that my child will be stressed out but DH feels strongly that we should bring her along.
My main concern is my child. I want her to have a good time, like DH says, holidaying, but hopefully she won’t be too stressed during the flight! She has gone through a 12 hours day flight and night flight with both ok. I think my DH and I were more stressed than her! But I have never attempted 24 hours before…
Any encouraging stories to tell…??? -
My DD is 3 years old.
Am thinking of going somewhere in Malaysia, maybe Desaru/Cameron Highlands. But both requires long coach journeys (> 3 hrs for Cameron even if we fly in to KL).
Am not driving in cos not familiar with Malaysia roads.
My family is not supportive saying that she will not be able to take it, since we are subjected to the mercy of the driver’s skills.
Any advice on taking kids on long coach journeys when you are not driving? -
3-4 hours is not very long. You have to be equipped with:
1. Lots of food and drinks(eg. bread, healthy snacks...)
2. Books and Toys
3. Sleeping gear such as neck rest, pillow or bolster or fave toy
4. Your healthy self to engage the child.
5. Lots of plastic bags in case of motion sickness
I travel with my child since 18 mths old on all kinds of transportation and the preparation is pretty much the same. Actually children can travel anywhere as long as they have their comfort, which is their parents.
As parents, we just need to enjoy the \"slavery\" then all is well. -
My boy's first trip was on coach to Msia, Lumut (then change to ferry to Pangkor). That was when he was 10mths old.
He had no probs on tt trio cos I BF him when he fuss.
Then, we went again when he was almost 2yo. He survived by sleeping & playing with us. Brought his soft toys along. My cousin brought a portable DVD player for her kids & my boy sat w my niece to watch
Then we went again last yr, when he was almost 3yo. He survived with DVD player tt my mum bought for him. Watch lil Einstein & eat & sleep.
The last trip was less troublesome cos he could eat at the stops (cup corn, etc). But we still packed loads of biscuits for him. -

I brought my kids when they were 2 and 4 to US. It was ok as I brought their toys to entertain them. They slept quite a lot too, however during the turbulance, they cried but that was the only time they cried loudly and for a while. Other than that, there was no prob. -
long flight for kids :
beware of dehydration, just like adults
bring lots of favorite sweets, toys, favorite bolster, etc -

My gal went on her first flight to cananda when she was 18 months old ...and she slept most of the time, without waking up for meals. The only difficult time is the landing and take off where the ear pressure got the better of her and she cried rather loudly.. So you may want to be prepared for that..Hi

Other than that, the experience was a positive one ..the flight attendants adored her
Guess your decision may also depend on the nature of your child. My gal has been an easy baby since birth...up till now, she still loves to sleep and the moment she hits the car...she will just nap... -
Just curious how or what you would do to prepare to ease the discomfort during taking off and landing for your child?

Provide sweets for sucking. Otherwise, chewing gums. If child is still being breastfed, feed during the take-off and landing.
Did all these for my children. They never had a problem with flights.
