Thanks for your info. Did some reading of the comments, it seems like most of them are recommending RI, a very good pathway if want to go overseas uni. We always thou RI is very competitive, but seems like is more slack then NY. I think overall, still depends on individual… trying to gather as much info as I can, so can help her chose the right sch and won’t regret. 😊
Is not just about playing this basket ball Cca anymore, once go up to A level
You or your daughter may go and read Reddit.
A lot of sharing there by the A-level students themselves, studying inside both (RI and Nanyang Junior College), useful first hand honest opinion info. -

Yes, she did. She has some seniors in both RI & NYJC, even the coaches she also knew them. She knew more friends are going to join NYJC than RI, that’s why she is leading towards NYJC. But RI offer is more attractive, like overseas training/exchange programs.
As your daughter is going to DSA via a sports, she should also find out (or at least have a gut feel) about the team that she is joining.
The bulk (if not all) of RI team is likely to come from the RGS team. They should have known each other / play together for 4 years. How well does your daughter know them? NYJC team, on the other hand, is likely to be new and could consist of players from everywhere. Is there anyone there she knows? -

 Yes you’re correct 👍 very keen observer,
My DD apply via non academic/cca talent
Her AL is somewhere around 10 🫢 so for us DSA is a good chance to try (for top 10 sch) but I also heard that the responsibility came with the confirmed seat is also not easy to juggle
I hv friend that said he regretted his DD took DSA and got in just because her PSLE was very good score so actually she could go anywhere and have other options but already tied to this some sort “obligation” hahaha
Thank you for your view on thisbbbay\" post_id=\"2077194\" time=\"1659523641\" user_id=\"175278:
I thought I wanted to leave this conversation till a later stage to avoid making any parents more nervous while waiting for outcomes. But since we are on this topic - sharing some recent real life examples of non-academic dormain dsa results and their eventual psle results based on my knowledge. This may not be representative of all offers given but the point is - as long as one dsa for the right reasons (namely talent and passion in the dormain), any school that u end up with should be a result of the opportunities given + choices made according to each child’s preference. No right or wrong answers. My view is:
We all make judgements, based on our past experiences. And our character is constantly changing too. So taking in others sharing that are not current, or from someone of different character is not new. We have to discern what we hear and see which part we can relate too, to make the best conclusion we can, out from the available information for ourselves lah 🐶
- Student accepted AL8 school CO but psle result AL9
- Student rejected AL7/8 COs. Consistent top student who wanted a particular dual track IP school, psle result came out worst than expected and balloted out for IP - ended up in the o level track because the school was the ultimate dream school of the student. Happy nevertheless.
- Student gave up AL7 CO because not sure about dormain. Psle result AL8 and went into an AL8 school.
- Students with AL6/7 COs accepted - most with psle results AL4s and AL5s, with some getting higher AL scores than cut off
(Take note I am referring to eventual psle scores at the national exam, and not p5/p6 school results.)
Naturally, all parents want the “best” for their children. To some, it means best fit. To others, it means the best name or highest ranked school. Then there are some parents who worry about getting a “lesser” school either by accepting the offer and then ending up with better psle score, or rejecting offer and then regret when psle results came out worst… At the end of the day, as one parent rightly pointed out - maybe it is best to invest time on supporting and understanding our child, and helping them find the school which can bring out their fullest potential - whether in academics or in their talent dormains, rather than trying to game the system.
Good luck all. For those getting an offer/waitlist - congratulations - your child was handpicked by the school to join them among so many applicants! :rahrah:
For those who didn’t get what they want - if that is the school that your child is aiming for, tell them to work hard to go in by psle score because this time, the school has no right to reject the child as long as he/she qualifies. -

For a sportsman I think joining a champion team is impt too. Did she try HCI just curious. In the basketball A div for girls this year, if I am not wrong the champion is HCI and runner up is NJC I think. Not so sure about RI or NYJC ranking. I know AHS basketball is Also very strong historically. Ultimately she must also like the team that she will be with most of the time or the coaches. Academic pressure, I feel it is the same in all the top JCs. All with other things equal, I still prefer the Raffles branding.

Parents may want to consider spending sometimes knowing themselves, when making school selection decision for the child, whether it is really for the parent themselves, or for the child . For example, I know someone, with kids PSLE results good enough to qualify for any secondary schools. But that parent influenced the child not to select the top schools. Reason is she thinks children in top schools mostly come from affluence background. That parent thinks it will be stressful for herself when she can’t keep up , if her child starts to compare themselves with these affluence kids in lifestyle areas. Whether parents aware it or not, their own outlook (personal hopes and fears) will influence their education decision. If parents can take care of themselves, they may be more balanced, and decision for child education may be more balanced too.

can we Expect NUSH overall results today?

Just to share a bit. My eldest dsa sports into a top school. The decision back then was fairly easy bc it was a highly coveted dsa position from a top performing sports team in sec Sch that my eldest had demonstrated she’s worthy. Her pri Sch coach actually set her on this path or target to enter this dream Sch since P5 so there was no other Sch that mattered to her. As parents of cos we are concerned about the academic pressure bc we wanted her to be happy more than anything else. I actually told her to accept another CO of a lesser sec Sch instead. Her desire to enter the Sch was so strong (competitive streak in her) that she worked doubly hard for PSLE after she had gotten the CO. She also wanted to prove she is no lesser in acad as well. She surpassed her prior results in PSLE and her form teacher was unbelievably happy. Yes she did feel the pressure in the school but ultimately bc she worked hard so she was never at risk and progressed easily to the JC. That’s why I believe the child’s input is very impt here.

Wow! That's early (over a month by MOE's standards). When do most schools start sending out their results?
