My girl is in Hci J2 now. She’s doing all the Sch prelim papers now. Not sure if it matters but she commented RI prelim papers are easy while NYJC is as hard as HCI. It is known NYJC is a mugger school as well.
Thanks for the info. I’m actually surprised that there’s quite a no. commented RI papers are easier and NYJC is always having tests… actually both me and hub prefer RI, but eventually is her choice. Just want to give her as much info as possible and not regret her decision.

For a sportsman I think joining a champion team is impt too. Did she try HCI just curious. In the basketball A div for girls this year, if I am not wrong the champion is HCI and runner up is NJC I think. Not so sure about RI or NYJC ranking. I know AHS basketball is Also very strong historically. Ultimately she must also like the team that she will be with most of the time or the coaches. Academic pressure, I feel it is the same in all the top JCs. All with other things equal, I still prefer the Raffles branding.
Yes, u r right…but HCI is very strong in Chinese, my gal Chinese is average. Not very worried about the team and coaches, but which sch has more opportunities to offer. Wondering how these students cope with studies and training at the same time, won’t it be very stressful & tiring to be in the top JCs?

As your daughter is going to DSA via a sports, she should also find out (or at least have a gut feel) about the team that she is joining.

The bulk (if not all) of RI team is likely to come from the RGS team. They should have known each other / play together for 4 years. How well does your daughter know them? NYJC team, on the other hand, is likely to be new and could consist of players from everywhere. Is there anyone there she knows?
Yes, she did. She has some seniors in both RI & NYJC, even the coaches she also knew them. She knew more friends are going to join NYJC than RI, that’s why she is leading towards NYJC. But RI offer is more attractive, like overseas training/exchange programs.

Is not just about playing this basket ball Cca anymore, once go up to A level

You or your daughter may go and read Reddit.
A lot of sharing there by the A-level students themselves, studying inside both (RI and Nanyang Junior College), useful first hand honest opinion info.
Thanks for your info. Did some reading of the comments, it seems like most of them are recommending RI, a very good pathway if want to go overseas uni. We always thou RI is very competitive, but seems like is more slack then NY. I think overall, still depends on individual… trying to gather as much info as I can, so can help her chose the right sch and won’t regret. 😊

Does your gal has any preference? If none then maybe the Raffles branding carries more weight. IP-JAE divide is always there at every school so shouldn’t be a concern. As long as gal can find her own group of friends, I don’t think there is a need to worry about the IP-JAE divide. If she focused her energies on her sport and seek to obtain leadership posts in her cca based on her strengths, I don’t think IP- JAE is a concern here as each cca member is evaluated on her merits to earn the leadership post.
Beginning my gal is leading more to NYJC, as most of her friends is choosing this school and culture quite similar to her current sch. She heard from her seniors, each have their pros & cons and she worried that she might make the wrong choice😅. Deadline is next week and she still cannot decide, so she asking our opinion. To parents, maybe RI is a better choice as what you said Raffles branding carries more weight.

Hi All, would like to have some advise if given a choice for RI & NYJC, thru DSA for basketball, which one will be a better choice? how’s their culture? Which one is more stressful? My gal is currently studying in AHS, so we thou maybe NYJC will be a better choice for her as culture is similar, but i heard they have a lot of tests going on every now and then. RI seems good but afraid my gal cannot blend in. Thank you in advance…
