National team: very good in her talent.
Got an eg. I like to think of her as an exception rather than norm. Psle 23x no hcl at psle but dsa into nygh. Now cca captain cum national team. Still in IP track and results not at risk.
Captain: with character and motivated -

Any of them regret DSA into IP schools?
I know of a couple. DSA into R and V IP schools (but dunno anyone in RV
) with t-score 230-ish. Some of the the kids are already in universities, some of them still in JCs, and the rest upper sec. While they are not necessarily the top of class, none of them dropped out of IP or were really at risk of dropping out. -

My 2 cents:
DD is nervous preparing tomorrow’s interview with DHS (SE) and didn’t study for the prelim 🤦🏻
️
She’s not taking higher MT so she worries abt interview conducted in Chinese
How many students called for interview and how are the chances for this batch? Because they said in email will be 2 hours approx
- I think contents of reply in more important than fluency. So as long as the content communicated accurately across, slow is not a problem.
- she can spend some time thinking and get to really know herself what she like/don’t like, good at/not good at. If she spend enough time and know them well (just like study well and can answer exam questions confidently, but this time is “study herself”), this may translate into impression of maturity (in adult term) in her reply during interview and may score some points. Importantly, she has to think thru them by herself and be honest. These will give the impression of “conviction” ( in adult term) during interviews. Maybe these are the “character” (in adult term) interviewers looking for. -
Hi,anyone has update on SJI sport domain? Already went for audition.

Why would they?
Any of them regret DSA into IP schools?
They are given / were given the opportunity to do the things they like / liked, and is / was doing well in them.
In terms of study, certainly not the top of the class, as others might be. It isn't / wasn't a walk in the park as they have / had to work for it.
They seem very happy with where are (currently) and what they had achieved (school medalists, National or U-21 team, local and overseas performances / competitions, etc). There is a possibility that they could have achieved the same elsewhere, but we wouldn't know, since it never happen. For them (at least the kids I know), the experience / journey turns out well.
At the end of the day, it's about expectations and what you *really* want. -
I also want to share balanced views. It is also true that kids who are in the on-demand O stream are mostly DSA sports students and even those who are still in IP, many do struggle to keep afloat as well…. School fit is still important. Perhaps a few AL below COP could be a good gauge when deciding whether to accept or not. Also, will kid crumble under pressure or have a positive mindset? Winning may be easy in sports but accepting that the acad results below par or being singled out may not be very manageable for such athletes who have only experienced glory.

Hi All, would like to have some advise if given a choice for RI & NYJC, thru DSA for basketball, which one will be a better choice? how’s their culture? Which one is more stressful? My gal is currently studying in AHS, so we thou maybe NYJC will be a better choice for her as culture is similar, but i heard they have a lot of tests going on every now and then. RI seems good but afraid my gal cannot blend in. Thank you in advance…

Does your gal has any preference? If none then maybe the Raffles branding carries more weight. IP-JAE divide is always there at every school so shouldn’t be a concern. As long as gal can find her own group of friends, I don’t think there is a need to worry about the IP-JAE divide. If she focused her energies on her sport and seek to obtain leadership posts in her cca based on her strengths, I don’t think IP- JAE is a concern here as each cca member is evaluated on her merits to earn the leadership post.

Understand the suspense and tension while waiting for dsa results but I can’t help but feel amused when parents are asking about other dsa kids’ experience in their dsa-ed school. These responses may be first hand but not so current, or it could be a friend’s friend’s story. To put things in perspective, other children’s experience and character will not be the same as your child’s - some kids crumble under pressure while others focus better when the spotlight is on them. Secondly, whatever views that one can get here may not be representative of the current cohort and current selection criteria - the silent majority may not be so vocal telling everyone they have made it, and usually it’s that one child who didn’t make it who gets all the attention. Most importantly, we don’t know under what circumstances these past dsa kids were offered a dsa spot - a low psle score after getting an offer may not necessarily mean the full picture since these kids might slacken after getting an offer. Have heard many cases where the child totally relaxes and starts claiming their video game rewards after getting that prized offer letter. It could also be that these dsa kids burn out faster before psle because the aim is to get the best possible school results at p5 and p6 sa1 in time for dsa application. (Parents I am sure u know what I mean :rotflmao: )
As I can see in the IP schools as an example, the truth is - in recent years, schools are more careful in giving out offers to candidates whom they think is a good match for their school, and today’s dsa candidates are indeed talented in both non-academic and academic achievements. It is quite common to hear dsa kids (acad and non acad dormains) who could have easily gone into these schools with their psle results. Basically in this dsa exercise, schools and talented kids in their respective dormains get their first pick before psle, before the general cohort gets to choose their schools via psle. So, when parents do receive the offer/waitlist on hand, look at your child, their character and learning styles, and what that school has to offer. Speak to your child about their aspirations and plans if they do want to accept the offer. Engaging your children is half the battle won because u let them make the decision about their next learning journey.
