sorry, i don't get it, care to explain?
I think what phtthp meant is that SJI offers an opportunity for the student to pursue an IB program (which VS doesn't?). It's not that the opportunity to go to university is gone but rather that with VS, the opportunity to pursue the IB diploma is gone.

Just my guess. I'm also not following this closely.

At end of Sec 2,
if your son is keen to transfer over from the O level track into IB-SJI (starting Sec 3), the opportunity is still there, if he were to choose SJI, because Victoria follow A-level, don't have any IB.

So, discuss with your son, is he interested in IB or not, at Sec 3?
If Yes, can consider SJ.

If No, absolutely not keen in IB-SJI (Sec 3) at all, then choose either O-level ( SJI or Victoria school)

You still need to be doing really well in sec 1 and sec 2 to be allow to transfer to SJI IB in yr 3 right?

Not a guranantee right?

Selection Criteria
14.\tShortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview on 11 October 2022.

15.\tSelection for admission is based on the following criteria:
a)\tConsistent excellent academic performance at Secondary 1 (i.e. ≥65% for the overall computation for each subject);
b)\tPerformance in the General Ability Test (GAT);
c)\tPortfolio of special academic awards, achievements, co-curricular activities, leadership and community development programmes;
d)\tPerformance at the interview.

I think have to be mindful and careful with this line of argument.

Is everyone in SJI O level classes going to jump from O Level to the IB programme? Certainly not, but at what numbers? 1 student, 10 students or 50 students? If it's 1 student out of a 100, that's probably not an incentive, nor advantageous. If it's 50 students out of a 100, it's reasonable to be tempted (assuming IB is something the student wants).

Furthermore, admission to the 3rd year IB programme is a not a closed system that's exclusive to SJI students. SJI will https://www.sji.edu.sg/admission/o-level-n-integrated-programme/admission-to-integrated-programme-secondary-3-in-ay2023 from any secondary schools into their IB programme, as long as the student meets their eligibility and selection criteria.

Doesn't this mean that a student from VS which meets the criteria could in fact get into SJI's IB program in Y3?
Introduction
1.\tThe SJI Integrated Programme (IP) Secondary 3 in AY2023 is open for application to boys in Secondary 2 in 2022 who are currently in the O-Level programme.

2.\tNon-SJI students who are admitted to their current Secondary School via DSA or by MOE via the AEIS, will not be considered for this admission exercise.
Hence, as long as you are not DSA-ed, you can. It is not applicable to WING_28 case, since his kid will be DSA-ed, whether to SJI or VS. I'm just pointing out that in general, that kind of argument about getting into a school O level programme so that you can switch to their IP programme is problematic.

However, for your question, in general, yes as long as the criteria are met.

Oh yes, you are correct. I forgot that WING_28's DS is entering VS via DSA (T&F). So this becomes an issue.

I also agree that moving from Os to IB is not easy notwithstanding there being an avenue for entry.

I agree that one should not choose a dual-track school with the intention of switching from O-level to IP track. It is not easy and the chance depends on the number and quality of Applicants Vs Vacancies.

I think MOE does not disallow a DSA student to switch from O-level to IP track in the same secondary school.
Note: DSA students are not allowed to transfer to another school.

I heard this from a principal of a dual-track school so unless there is recent policy change but I don't think so ... I will correct this post if I am wrong about the DSA transfer policy.

Thanks.

Dear All, able to have up to date info between both school, as we are deciding between VS or SJI.
Both are \"O\" level program.

DSA via Track & Field.

Proximity will not be an direct issue, hence please advise.
If your son has not done so (especially if he did not attend open house of VS/SJI), it will be good for him to visit VS and SJI websites to know more about the school (values, culture, programs, achievements, ... )
