What I was told by other experienced parents (not sure how true because MOE doesn't go into detail?):
In previous years there was some discussion about S1 posting using the new AL scoring system. Somebody postulated that MOE has all the students’ raw scores, and that all of them are ranked from the number 1 in SG all the way down. That’s how the computer can start to process from the top student’s first choice, allocate the school, then keep going down the list, until the school is filled, and so on. A lower ranked student wont get his choices processed before a higher ranked student.
So I wonder if for DSA exercise of preferences, there is a similar consolidated master list (from the top school’s list all the way down), otherwise where to start from?
The other possibility is the computer runs separate schools’ DSA lists independently. In which case there will be some forsaken COs that will not flow to any waitlisters?[/quote]
1. School has a list of CO and WL, in order of preference. Allocated to CO first.
2. System will allocate to WL people in order of preference according to what the school gave.
3. This WL preference list is spread across all domains of 1 school.
4. System then checks:
(a) School A has 100 DSA vacancies.
(b) 350 COs across all domains put as 1st choice.
(c) On hold till all schools 1st choice CO done.
(d) Go on to WL. School A still has 50 vacancies, so top 50 on WL who put as 1st choice will be taken in.
(e) Let's say only 30 kids with WL put school A as 1st choice. Then system will move to kids who didn't get any offers yet after looking at their 1st choice, and move on to look at their 2nd choices.
(f) 2nd choice with CO kids (ranked also) will get in first. If say only 10 such kids at school A at this point enrol, then there's another 10 vacancies and it will repeat to those who put WL for School A as 2nd choice but have not gotten any other schools in their first choice. Then repeat again for 3rd choice. -

:thankyou for the info. So if given a CO for school A and subsequently placed school A CO as second choice, there may be a chance that the kid may not get school A in the event that 1st choice is not successful too?

That will depend on whether your 1st choice gets converted into the CO, or not.
:thankyou for the info.
So if given a CO for school A and subsequently placed school A CO as second choice, there may be a chance that the kid may not get school A in the event that 1st choice is not successful too?
Example
=======
Suppose the pupil submit back these 2 choices back to MOE, as shown below.
Suppose this pupil actually accepted both the Wait list plus CO, from 2 different schools :-
1) MGS (Wait list), for English domain
2) SCGS (CO), Badminton Sports
=======================
Scenario A -
Suppose
her 1st choice : MGS Waitlist got successfully converted into CO. Congratrulations ! So, this pupil gets admitted into Sec 1 (MGS Girls' Secondary school).
Computer stop processing for this pupil, then move onto the next DSA candidate, to process next.
OR
Scenario B -
Suppose her 1st choice MGS Waitlist failed to get converted.
Never mind.
Computer moves down to her 2nd choice DSA decision made, to check. Oh ! She has accepted SCGS CO, for badminton, as her 2nd choice. OK, computer slot this pupil into SCGS, since is a CO. So, pupil gets admitted into Sec 1 (SCGS). -

This is what I understand too. But the other parents were telling me something slightly different, so very confusing.

If first choice WL didnt get convert to CO, then move down to 2nd choice CO, the computer will based on remaining slots after considering all the WLs under 1st choice or whether it is a confirmed Slot for the pupil since the school offered CO to the pupil?phtthp\" post_id=\"2114515\" time=\"1690191873\" user_id=\"35251:

If suppose her 2nd choice is a CO,
then she will definitely get in,
Because
she is given a .... CO.
However,
if her 2nd choice DSA decision made is a Wait list (for SCGS Badminton),
Instead of a CO, ah ...
then,
whether her Wait list gets converted into CO or not, will depend on circumstances :-
1) Total number of students, who have given up the COs, inside school SCGS. Only when got students give up their CO, then that is where got chance for the Wait-list to be converted into CO. Otherwise, zero chance.
+
2) her own ranking position, within the Wait-list (SCGS) itself.
If this pupil is ranked far below, somewhere close to bottom of the Waitlist,
then
it is possible that her Waitlist will not get converted in the end. -

A CO is a CO. Schools cannot back out unless you reject them during the preference ranking.
So in my case if the WL did not convert, my DD will be moved to school #2 which she already got CO.
This was also clearly explained to me by School #1 to put them as WL and even if not successful, DD will be moved to school #2 with CO. -
