DSA 2023

I have two questions on NUSHS
1. Do you need MO medals or admission is mostly based on their entrance exam. My DD only has ‘mention’ in P5 but didn’t qualify for second round in their MO. Didn’t qualify in any other MO.
2. What is the boys to girls ratio usually? My girl prefers a majority girls school. Also what is the usual ratio in NJC?
We are looking for a school where my girl enjoys Math, English and Violin. Not so good in Science and MT.
Thank you. -

CCK2008,
Just heard HCI A level result median is 88. Consistently the top jc not only this year, but also past few years. It seems like they are better value added than RI.
Since u have 2 daughters or 2 sons or (1 son + 1 daughter)
studying before in RGS / RI
Or
studied before in NYGH / Hwa Chong,
you can put your comments about A level results, mean & median, into another comparison thread below concerning \"value added-ness\" , instead of this \"2023 DSA\".
https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=12662&start=920
Why ?
Because
\"DSA 2023\"
is talking about DSA APPLICATION to ALL type of Secondary schools, in general.
Can be applying to an IP A-level school, or to IP IB school, or to O-level ordinary school, Independent schools like Sports school, SOTA, SST, NUSH, etc.
Over here, inside this DSA 2023 thread, we do not just harp on RI or Hwa Chong, these two schools only. DSA definitely cover a WIDE range of Secondary schools. -

My kid attempted DSA to NUSH 7 yrs ago so certain things could have changed. However, I vividly remembered being told that NUSH is the specialized sch for both Math and Sci. It is for kids who are passionate in both subjects. With all due respect, if your gal is not so into Sci, this sch may not be the most suitable for her.

Thank you. NUSHS is parents preference. We give her say in picking 2 DSA choices and we pick 1. This in addition to SOTA.

My friend’s son got in without doing MO, so it is possible with a strong portfolio/ interest and coupled with entrance exams/ interviews etc.

His Year 1 class has 6 girls out of 30 students.. not sure about other classes, but definitely more boys than girls in the cohort. NJC has more girls, but exact figures I’m not sure.
You may wish to find out your daughter’s projected AL range, to shortlist schools. All the best! -

It’s how you perform in the 1st round entrance exams and then the 2nd round camp. For some kids they have a 3rd round, interview as well.. these are for those that they are unsure of. Some got offers after the 2nd round. I do believe medals would give you an added advantage.

My DS’s school, 2 kids without strong medal showings (at most was a bronze in NMOS, no silver/gold etc) secured a CO but they had to go for the 3rd round interview.
Hope that helps. Good luck! -

I don't know what is \"projected\" score. She gets between AL6 and 10. She is on border on 3 subjects. We will be very happy with 8.

For AL8, Cedar Girls’ and SCGS sound like possible choices if you enter through AL scores. But for DSA, since we are talking about that here… probably aim for RGS or MGS. Both schools allow your child to take Chinese only without the higher Chinese requirement and have a strings department for CCA. Question is, A-levels or IB?

Hi, I 've been following this DSA 2023 from pg 1 til now, and not much parents share about their kids DSA application.
Kindly allow me to ask your opinions & thoughts, which IP schools shd my DS aims for his DSA Leadership ? RI, HCI, CHS, DHS or RVHS ? And what are the chances to get CO from these schools ?
Not sure if these schools also looking for others such as character, behavior, academics or sports as overall in term of selection?
3rdly, heard that the interview is very difficult as most of shortlisted failed at this stage, really ?
He studies neighborhood school, Vice Head Prefect & CCA Badminton Capt.(since P5).
Received school model pupil awards since P3, as well as MOE awards like Eagles, Character & Good Progress.
Last yr P5 scored overall AL8 (HCL=UG, both languages at border line of AL3). If not applying DSA and solely depending on his PSLE results, high risk to maintain AL8.
Last yr sch. picked to participate Innovation Program (2022 1st time opened to Pri level), Science Competitions (SPSO/RSO/VANDA/Science Busker), Math Competitions (SMO/PSMathlympics/MNOS) and Chinese (NCC).
But just won Bronze from SPSO. This yr so far PSMathlympics.
For CCA Badminton, Practicing his skills trained by his coach since P1. not much Badminton competitions due to
Covid (sad…). Last yr won 1st Team Placing (Tier-2 Doubles) at local event Junior Div Boy NSG. This yr, sch. team he played lost in Prelim. Rd Senior Div Boy NSG eventhough his doubles won throughout the games. Btw, his height now likes Sec student.
As I observed, applying DSA Leadership got better chance compared to DSA Badminton coz Badminton is a famous sport & expecting alot of kids who played better than him applying DSA Badminton so his chance to get CO very slim.
So far didn’t discuss much with him about DSA as wanted him to stay focus on his study+exam on Term 1 & mid-yr exam.
Appreciated your advices for this un-decisive dad.
Thanks. -
