Understood that now is too early to choose which school to go. Try not to stress myself and my wife nor even dare talk about it with him at this moment (but will talk to him after mid-yr exam in May). I just take my times to gather facts & ideas about these schools bcoz it's important to him as this will change his life once decided (with no regret). Visiting these schools during open house will be a must to have a closer look and feel.

Thanks for the idea to talk to his coach to go other comps. I also wanted to see how far he can go (skills and rank). Agree and always hv this thought that out there sure got other kids play better & got better AL scores than him.

Perhaps will seek his school teacher's guidance and assistance to sharpening his interview skills if shortlisted for interview then.

      AHsDad > Thanks. :salute:
I agree with what other parents have mentioned . Kids who can get a CO for badminton are in the national rankings and are well-known in the circle . So using leadership might have higher chances to getting an interview .

But to clinch a CO, the kid must have a very strong selling point which he can sell off during the interview . During my daughter’s group interview (during covid 2 years back) , 1 girl spoke on going overseas to raise $200k . How can we beat that ? Needless to say , my girl didn’t clinch a CO .

So consider your DSA options very carefully so as not to waste the chance. Competition for RI dsa , even just the interview, is very very stiff .

Also choose the school wisely. Personally I find that the math syllabus in RI is quite accelerated vis-a-vis other Sec schools.

Think about which school your son will really be happy in . With a happy heart , the child will soar to his highest . Going to a top school doesn’t guarantee that …..

          Thank you for sharing.

Has anyone done a comparison between SOTA vs MGS? Since both are doing IPIB. Thanks.

I have not done detailed anysis. But the summary is:

IB need to study 6 subjects. There are 6 groups. The sixth group is Arts. If you are in SOTA, you must pick one subject from Arts group. That means you will cover all 6 groups. This puts students in a position where they can only pick one among Physics/Chemistry/Biology. Some people comment that students can do 7 subjects and select a second Science so that they have wider choices in University admission process. I am not very sure if SOTA allows this.

If you go to IB in MGS, you pick one subject each from the first five groups and your 6th subject can be from the Science group. This is because Arts group can be replaced with one of the other five as per IB requirements to pass. Thus, you can do two Science subjects without studying 7 subjects if you are in MGS.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Anyone knows parents whose child was a Top 50 finalist in the SOTA ART COMPETITION last few years? How did it help in the SOTA DSA or does it help in anyway? Thanks

                To further ask:
(Not that my kids can / want to go med sch)

Even for med sch interview, only Chem is required right?

So the real use of 2 sci at “high school” level is really marginal right? Anything more, can always learn at the uni level.

Actually for medicine, need 2 sciences. Chemistry is compulsory, the other science can be either biology or physics.

“A good H2 pass in Chemistry and H2 pass in either Biology or Physics.”

One of her classmate was. Definitely a plus to list it when applying. However in the end, this child went to another school though.

There are many courses which require double science. We must check the university website.
