DSA 2024

This is a reply from another school in the top 4 ranking to my enquiry on DSA students with high AL point coping with their curriculum.
In considering the school choice for your <child> it is important to consider whether the school is a good fit and whether your <child> will grow and develop well in that school.
If your <child> is given a confirmed offer via DSA, the minimum AL he has to attain is an AL of less or equal to 22.
We do have some cases where DSA students with high AL find it a challenge to cope in <school>
So my advise is to consider and to talk to your <child> about this matter.
Thank you.

Hi,
Seeking some advice please…
Based on the dsa template, it says: “Your child’s primary school information will be automatically shared with the DSA-Sec school(s) that you applied to. This includes your child’s P5 and P6 academic results, and other information from P4 to P6, i.e., Co-curricular Activities, Values in Action involvement, School-based achievements/awards such as Edusave Awards, National School Games and Junior Sports Academy participation will be automatically shared with the DSA-Sec school(s) you applied to. You do not need to input this information.”
Q1: Will the Edusave awards shared include EAGLES & ECHA awards too?
Q2: Do we need to include awards received from school at the year-end Annual Speech & Prize-Giving day?
Q3: If only P4-P6 info will be shared, should we add on awards received from P1-P3? E.g.
Thank you very much! -
Any one has any input on social innovation with cedar girls ? My kid is doing mid to high 10s overall , has done some external activities. Want to understand her chances and how the screening process has been

Hi, needed advise here, between SCGS and RV, which is a better school? If comparing EJC and RV A level result, seems like SCGS better. But I might be wrong.

Better in terms of the A Level results? I think better think carefully, one is a girls school and the other co-ed and one is a SAP school (If I am not wrong )

If your criteria is just the A Levels then it may be EJC. -

I really think it depends on the school. some school look for potential , some look for achievements. however i feel that lack of portfolio is an issue. can't possibly leave it empty. did any forerunners just get interview by just the school WA & SA scores for academic?
So far I think all of us have been thinking in term of achievements when it comes to deciding DSA applications. Maybe we should also look at how to discover our children potentials and also how to let the schools notice them in our child too. -

Advice from the schools themselves, on selecting school for the child is to for good fit. More importantly is to find out which school fit your child better. As another parent has pointed out, one is a girl school and the other is a SAP school (heavy on Chinese culture). Academic performance is only part of the consideration. Some student strive in a rigorous environment and others perform better in less competitive. To me a way to try to find more whether school fit the child is to visit their open house, to feel the vibe of the schools.

Hi Chin99 and bbbay, Thanks for your reply. We went to their open house. Yes RV is a SAP school.

think of the distance, your daughter has to travel everyday. Which school is nearer ? You won't want your girl to travel so far per trip, to and fro both ways, making her so tired everyday, right ?

Also, ask your daughter herself - she prefer or more comfortable with an \"All Girls\" school, or a co Ed school ?
She is the one studying, not you (parent). Thus, u need to consult her opinion.

your question about A level results- which one is better : Eunoia JC or River Valley High ?
Nowadays, MOE never published any A level results. So, nobody know. But some JCs may post their A level results, on their school website. So, u can go and check yourself.
Both JCs are equally good. Most important is, your child herself, is self motivated. Then, your child will do fine, regardless of which JC she goes to. -
Hi phttp, Thank you for your comment. Actually we’re intending to move depending on which school she’ll go. But the location will be somewhere midpoint between this P6 and another secondary child. Both schools was her choices, she shortlisted 4 and so now we are torn between which to eliminate. Anyway thanks all for the reply.
