I got no choice arh. Hv to tahan even tho hv headache & sleepy & tired. Our elderly need our attention.

No joke. A fall can become a need for major op. So much risks involved in fractured hip, as doc adv may affect kidney, then may result in need for kidney transfusion, etc.

I was perplexed, trying to absorb all these new info & hv to evaluate a Community Hospital suitable for recovery period. Saw a lot of negative feedback on the outwardly nice looking Ng Teng Fong Hospital. Hv to evaluate Jurong Community Hospital or the Renci Community Hospital.

Hv to rotate duties amongst SILs, but mostly in my shoulders as they've very young kids & one niece in PSLE year, whilst ano SIL hv father in palliative care too. No luxury to rest & recover fr jetlag alr.
who will look after your kids while you attend to FIL? take care of yourself too.
for the elderly, a fall is no laughing matter because their bones are weak.
step down hospital during recovery is expensive. ex-neighbour stayed at st luke for 1 month after his knee replacement surgery. 加油.

          Thanks Janet. :thankyou:

MIL very tired out alr, more coz of anxieties. Cooked her favorite pumpkin soup as she had no appetite. Made it extra thick to give that substantive feel for her stomach.

FIL will be operated on tonite. Long drawn till next morn I think. The need a lot of time ore- & post op observation, before cleared for pushing back to ward.

Yes. Was told recuperation @ Community Hospital need at least 1 mth or 2 due to age. Also, op comes with risks esp hip near kidney. They took a whole day to prep scan his heart to determine he's suitable for op. Thot it'll be tmr op but seems things rolling fast.

            esteema,
            you're really filial.
just back from long holiday and having jetlag...yet have to function as per normal.
please take good care. kids need you too.

after the op, your FIL will have to stay in high dependency ward before he is cleared to be pushed back to the normal ward.

              We all do our best.

Good thing sch holidays till end of week & DS hv many projects to complete. Will hope to complete his dough making experiment with him next few days. He’s suppose to interview his grandpa for his HCL autobiography of 老前辈 & take 5 min video of him by week 2 of T3. So, it’s good DC kept busy whilst I run ard.

Will survive. Just feeling haggard & tired. Better days will come.

              Janet,
Thks for headsup on observation time. Think he must be very anxious. Our family prayed with him before he went in. We’re trusting all goes well. Good for the kids to know what adults do, as I explained to kids tt just as we need them when young & helpless, they now need us when old & frail.

                  Esteema,

Take care. My grandpa and FIL broke hip bone because of fall too and were in community hospital for a month each. Both of them had to walk with the u-shape walking stick after that ( did not recover) , so no choice we had to get a maid due to lack of manpower at home. So I can understand what you are going through as we don’t have siblings to share the load somemore in both cases due to some family dynamics.

I u'stand your sharing. I went thro alone when mum had 2 strokes & I was bearing load alone at a very young age. So, with my DH's family, had always been the one pulling wholevfamily for dinner gatherings (F/M's Day celebration, b'days, CNY, Christmas...) Had done a lot by r'mebring nephews & nieces needs. This time really warm to see fruits of labour in the cohesiveness in managing FIL.

At least now, all knows I've their interests at heart & take my suggestions. Many years back, when I sold my own property, I bought insurance for both PIL. Now, everyone ustand the benefits. Preparing for some reno when FIL in Community Hospital to make place more elder-friendly.

                    FLD,
                    :thankyou:
Will get the U-shaped walking stick ready. Ya, fall & hip bone fracture is awlfully painful. Alr had a wheelchair MIL used when her ankle tendon tore years ago.

Esteema, I am not sure whether the ex-Alexandra Hospital is still the training ground for Sengkang Hospital. If it is, then you may want to consider the ex-Alexandra Hospital as your PIL’s community hospital. We chose the ex-Alexandra Hospital as my MIL’s community hospital 2 years back when she had a fall. The nurse patient ratio and physiotherapists patient ratio are very good as the hospital was very empty. They hardly have any patient. You can ask your PIL’s current hospital to arrange.

Is Alexandra a Community Hospital now? 2 years back is 2016?

If that location, it's central for us all, then it'll make MIL so happy as most convenient for everybody.

Unfortunately, DH said it's alr closed since June 2015. It's got only A&E apparently.

Thank you for looking out for us.
